New Year, New Specialists at Ebeling
Mr. Fante-Physical Education Teacher
Dear Families of Ebeling Elementary,
My name is Elijah Fante, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new Physical Education teacher at Ebeling Elementary. As a proud graduate of Wayne State University and a member of the Air Force National Guard, I bring dedication, discipline, and enthusiasm to helping students discover the joys of physical activity.
In high school, I played baseball and ran cross country, experiences that taught me the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and setting personal goals. Outside of school, I enjoy snowboarding, fishing, spending time outdoors, and working out. These activities have not only kept me active but have also fueled my passion for promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
My goal as a PE teacher is to create a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment where every student feels encouraged to participate, learn new sports, and develop lifelong habits of physical fitness. I believe that physical education is not just about exercise but also about building confidence, teamwork, and a positive mindset.
I am looking forward to getting to know your children and partnering with you to support their growth and well-being throughout the school year. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or if there's anything you'd like to share with me.
Here's to a fun and active year ahead!
Best regards,
Elijah Fante
Ms. Kevonian-ISM teacher
Dear Families of Ebeling Elementary,
My name is Niki Kevonian and I am so excited to introduce myself as the new ISM teacher at Ebeling. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Art from Wayne State University and am currently enrolled in a Teaching Certificate program. I was a graphic designer at a publishing company for 20 years and due to budget cuts had to rethink my next steps. My dream goal is to become and Elementary Education Art Teacher.
I am a proud mother of two wonderful boys who are 10 & 12. They have supported and persevered with me through this new career path. Your children have made my first week amazing! I am learning how to persevere right alongside with them. This just happened to be our topic this month in ISM.
I look forward to getting to know each of your children and giving them a safe and comfortable environment to learn and to grow in!
Thank you for the opportunity!
Niki Kevonian

PBIS at Ebeling
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support. This is an initiative that teachers at our school adopted at the beginning of the school year. There are several other schools in the district who are also in the implementation process or have already implemented. It takes about three to five years to fully implement PBIS and see consistent results.
PBIS begins with targeting all students. With PBIS in place, most students can be successful. There are common expectations across all the common areas. Once strategies for all students are in place, then our team can begin to look at problem behaviors and where and when they are occurring and target hose behaviors specifically.
As a staff, we came up with four Core Values we are calling our Eagle Expectations.
- Be Respectful
- Be Responsible
- Be Safe
- Be Kind
We have a behavior matrix for all common areas of the school that gives examples of appropriate behaviors in each area. We are in the process of creating videos for each area: classroom, cafeteria, playground, hallways, bathroom, bus, and assemblies. Tuesday of this past week Mrs. Z and Mr. B led the whole school through a virtual assembly explaining our new Eagle Expectations and our new tickets system. Students are able to earn tickets throughout the day from any adults in the building if they are caught following the Eagle Expectations. Every Friday, each class will have a raffle with the collected tickets and choose two winners who then are able to come down to the "Eagle's Nest" and choose a prize.
The students have enjoyed earning the tickets this week and we have already seen an improvement in behavior across all areas of the building.
Smart Watches in School
We understand that many students enjoy wearing smartwatches to school, and they can be a helpful tool when used appropriately. However, to ensure that these devices do not disrupt the learning environment, all smartwatches must be set to school time mode** during the school day. This setting disables notifications and other distractions, allowing students to stay focused on their studies. If a student is found using their smartwatch during school hours for any purpose, they will not be permitted to wear it to school again. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us maintain a productive and distraction-free learning environment! Smart watches are never allowed during any assessments and students will have to put them in their backpacks. Any cell phones brought to school must be off and in backpacks.
**Check the website of your child's watch to learn more about school time mode.
Lunch Deliveries
While we understand the appeal of having fast food delivered to school, we prioritize the health, safety, and well-being of our entire student body. Allowing outside food deliveries creates logistical challenges, disrupts the school environment, and can lead to unfair advantages for some students. For these reasons, fast food deliveries during school hours will not be permitted. We encourage all students to either bring a packed lunch or enjoy the free meals provided in our cafeteria.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Birthday Treats
We do not allow food for birthday celebrations in the classrooms. Please consult with your child's teacher to find out how your child can be celebrated at school.
Watch DOGS (Dads of Great Students)
Attention Dads or Positive Male Role Models of Ebeling!
Ebeling Elementary in coordination with the PTA is implementing a new program this year called WATCH D.O.G.S.. WATCH D.O.G.S. ® (Dads Of Great Students) is a family and community engagement educational initiative. There are 2 primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. ® program.
- To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
- To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.
WHO ARE WATCH DOGS?
WATCH DOGS are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other family guardians who
volunteer for at least one day each year at an official WATCH D.O.G.S. ® school. During the day, WatchDOGS may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, watch the school entrances and hallways, assist with traffic flow and any other assigned activities where they actively engage with not only their own students, but other students as well. Many school principals have reported that the mere presence of a WatchDOG dramatically reduces reports of bullying. On the day of their participation, WatchDOGS are given a brief review of their involvement and they wear an official WATCH D.O.G.S. ® t-shirt identifying them as WatchDOGS. WatchDOGS are ‘Heroes of the Hallway’.
HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO BE A WATCH DOG?
It can be a once-a-week, once-a-month, or once-a-year commitment. Our hope is that most of our Dads or male role models are able to work with their employer to take a day off.
***YOU MUST HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK TO BE A WATCH DOG.***
