Congratulations Mr. Spruiell!!!
The Mirabeau B. Lamar Award is an award given in Texas to recognize outstanding individuals in various fields, often related to history, education, or civic engagement. This year's Kingsland School recipient is Mr. Jesse Spruiell.
Jesse Spruiell is an exceptional educator and integral member of the Kingsland School community. Jesse’s contributions since Kingsland School began 9 years ago have been invaluable in shaping the growth and success of our school, and his dedication to both the students and families we serve is unmatched.
As a founding member of Kingsland School, Jesse played a key role in helping establish a strong foundation for our educational community. Over the years, his commitment to our mission and vision has only deepened, as he has continuously worked to ensure the school’s continued growth and success. In his current role as a 7th and 8th grade English and Social Studies teacher, Jesse has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment for all students.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Jesse serves as our technology and extracurricular coordinators, roles in which he has gone above and beyond to integrate innovative educational tools and opportunities into the school’s curriculum. He also provides mentorship to new teachers, offering guidance, support, and sharing his expertise to help them navigate their early years in the classroom.
Jesse’s selflessness and dedication extend far beyond his formal duties. He regularly steps up to assist in areas where help is needed, including stepping in as a substitute teacher in our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms during a teacher vacancy. His willingness to pitch in wherever necessary and his ability to remain calm and positive in the face of challenges make him a beloved and trusted member of our team.
Kingsland School has benefitted immeasurably from Jesse’s leadership, initiative, and passion for education. His tireless efforts have played a significant role in our growth and success.

Charter School Funding - Did you know?
Great news from the Capitol!
House Bill 2, which covers school finance, has now been filed by Chairman Brad Buckley — and it includes additional funding for public charter school facilities.
Here's the quick math: Today, total facilities funding for all Texas public charter schools is capped at $60 million. HB 2 would remove the cap and calculate facilities funding on a per-student basis, resulting in an estimated total of $179 million next school year.
This is a huge step toward fairness. Unequal facilities funding is the main reason why public charter schools receive $1,600 less per student overall than other public schools.
Our top priority is to protect this proposal. There will likely be attempts to remove facilities funding from the bill. We have to make our voices heard.
So, what’s next? The House Public Education Committee needs to discuss HB 2 and vote to send it to the full Texas House. If your lawmaker is on the committee, we’ll reach out to you once a hearing is scheduled.
Get Caught Up: Unequal facilities funding is the top issue for public charter schools during the legislative session. This video explains what you need to know in just 30 seconds. Please take a moment to check it out.
Be on the lookout for a call to action. The legislative session is heating up!
