Fifth Grade:
Hi boys and girls! This last week, we reach the decade of the 1970's, and people could enjoy more types of music than ever before, which makes this decade very unique! Disco became one of the biggest musical genres during the 1970's, but there were also other genres including funk, soul, rock, and reggae, among many others. Some famous musical artists of the 1970's (which you may recognize some of these names) include: Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Abba, The Bee Gees, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Janis Joplin, the Jackson 5...and there are so many more!
I have picked three artists and have examples of their music below. I would like you to pick one artist and compare their music to previous genres of music that we have studied this year. Be thinking about what type of genre of music from the past (we have covered jazz, blues, spirituals, gospel, early rock and roll, and rhythm and blues) that you think influenced their music-making, and be ready to answer a few questions about it on the google sheet to share with me.
