As our community begins a much-needed Spring Break, I want to take a moment to thank our staff for everything they have done to support our students this year. So many of our staff members are deeply invested in our community through coaching and outreach, which is yet another reason why the Northwestern community is such a special place.

To all of our students, parents, and staff, I hope you enjoy your Spring Break. My hope is that you are all able to disconnect and recharge. Whether you’re heading to the beach, traveling out west, or staying home with family, this break is a wonderful opportunity to relax, reflect, and refresh.

Georgia Milestones are right around the corner with assessments starting on April 21. Please try to minimize absences on testing days to avoid missing class time for make-up assessments. Please see below about testing dates and the alternate bell schedule.

Results from the Georgia Milestones will provide valuable feedback for students and parents about what the student has learned in the current grade/course and what strengths or areas of support exist as students transition to the next grade/course.

Fulton Virtual offers flexible online learning options for Fulton County School students across the district. Whether you're looking to recover credits or accelerate your studies, our teacher-led courses provide the support you need to succeed.

The Student Success Skills Inventory is used to measure student growth across Student Success Skill standards as a result of Rethink Ed lessons. It takes about 15 minutes to complete. The inventory is pushed out to students during homeroom using the Illuminate platform. The Post-Inventory will be administered the week of April 14. Parents can choose to opt their student out of the inventory. To opt out, parents must submit a written request to opt out to the school principal.

Beginning on Tuesday, January 21st, in the interest of the safety of our students, we are adjusting our carpool procedures slightly. Below is a map of the new process as well as the detailed procedures with the changes in bold.

• Our MIMO families will line up in the area shaded in blue on the map below
• VIP carpool spaces (10) are marked with yellow stars. Do not line up here.
• The carpool line will begin in the staff lot at the green star on the map below
• When exiting the carpool circle, all cars will be required to turn right
• Students will only be allowed to exit the building through the front doors or Wildcat Den doors. Students may not enter the staff parking lot to meet your car. Students must be picked up along the sidewalk in the roundabout.
• If parents pick up their student in the MHS parking, the students will need to stay on the sidewalk and cross the street in the crosswalk.
• Follow NMS staff directions at all times. If you are asked to move your car, please do so.
• Students may not be picked up in bus loop or anywhere on School Road.

Students and Parents are strongly encouraged to communicate directly with their teachers. Our teachers pledge to be sensitive to your concerns and to partner with you to solve any problem. Attached below is the Communication Procedure for Northwestern Middle School. If a problem or concern should arise, speaking directly with the teacher first is always the preferred first step.

Study Sessions for this school year are beginning. Each teacher is available to students at least one day a week in the morning or afternoon. A list of all grade level sessions is linked below. Students are encouraged to attend with questions on homework or when extra support is needed after a lesson has been taught in class.

The Milton Library will be offering free math tutoring sessions for students this fall. Starting September 6th, our skilled tutors will be available to assist students with their math challenges on Friday afternoons from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (three 30 minute sessions), and Saturday mornings from 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM (two 30 minute sessions) with our tutors offering help from basic math through Algebra.

Our school website is full of information! The calendar is constantly updated with events from PTO, Fine Arts, Athletics and other school activities. There is a staff directory where you can get the email address of any staff member. Information on carpool, attendance, student handbook, bell schedule, study sessions and more are located on the website!
