Never Forget . . .
On Wednesday, the the world marked the 23rd anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Our school observed it in several ways: as a whole during a moment of silence, and through direct instruction in classrooms. In social studies, teachers engaged students in grade appropriate tasks, that included small and large discussion groups and for seniors, featured a film about students at Stuyvesant High School.
Eagle Scout in the Making
For his Eagle Scout Project, junior Chris Miceli designed and planted a perennial garden in the courtyard between E corridor and the CSC--naturally beautifying the Claire Julian Memorial Garden. Chris met with the Julians to discuss ideas, assembled donations from all around the community, and together with his family and a band of volunteers, got to work. He broke ground at the end of last school year, and just recently put down the mulch. He will add a stone bench in a couple of weeks. It is truly a place of tranquility. Thank you, Chris, for this gift our students will value for years to come! See pics here.
Strategic Plan Focus
- The development of forensic science: Ms. Hoeler asks students to explore Alphonse Bertillon’s anthropometry, the pioneering science that uses human measurements for identification in criminal documentation. See pics here.
- Building connections: Thank you ninth graders for making our hallways more welcoming! Mrs. Dallow's idea for the Welcome Back Board in E-corridor is truly a needed splash of color! See pics here.
- #Panthers are Problem Solvers: Ms. Milo's AP Biology class constructed models of biological macromolecules to explore their complex structures and functions. See pics here.
District Advisory and Board Committee Applications
The applications are due by 5:00PM on Friday, September 20th.
The District and the Board of Education provide opportunities for community members to take an active role in our schools. The District’s Board Committees and Advisory Committees currently have open positions for community volunteers. Please scan the QR code to complete the application for that committee. More information about each can be found on the Committees page under the Board of Education section of our website.
From the Counseling Office
The Counseling Department held two important events this week. On Wednesday at 6:00, Ryan Depuy, Executive Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Iona University, offered an informational session about financial aid. Then, at 7:00, the counselors took over and took parents and seniors through the college planning process. Thanks to everyone for attending. See pics here.
Here is our weekly installment of important info from our counselors:
