LIVONIA CAREER TECHNICAL CENTER
NEWSLETTER~~~~~~~~~APRIL 19, 2024
Good afternoon LCTC Families,
As we settle into the fourth marking period, I want to take a moment to encourage students to stay focused and finish the year strong. I would like to emphasize the importance of attending class daily, this simple action is instrumental in laying the foundation for success.
We had a wonderful week, full of learning and achievement at LCTC this week. Our Advanced Medicine class took their Patient Care Technician certification exam and had a 90% pass rate. Criminal Justice had a lot of visitors this week. Canton Police brought their K9 unit, including Canine Officer Tino. The FBI also stopped by the Criminal Justice program to teach them about polygraphs and a few students even agreed to take a polygraph with the FBI agent. Our medical classes visited the University of Toledo Cadaver lab this week. Game Design and Animation classes had an escape room simulation on site where they were able to put the skills they learned in class to work. It is wonderful to see our students and educators achieving remarkable success in their CTE programs.
A reminder that there is no school on Friday, April 26th.
With LCTC Pride,
Lindsay Gray

CRIMINAL JUSTICE CLASS
The Madonna University Criminal Justice Club spent the afternoon learning about Use of Force and Use of Force case law with Mr. Mann. The students learned de-escalation techniques and threat identification by using the firearms simulation system.
The Madonna University Forensic Society provides fingerprint instruction and explains the different fingerprint types.
Officer Noutilla, Officer Zinser, and K-9 Tino of the Canton Police Department spoke with criminal justice students about the opportunities the department offers. K-9 Tino is a multi-purpose canine that conducts tracking of suspects, narcotics detection, and article searches. An article search is used to find lost property or evidence discarded from a suspect in a space too large for humans to effectively search. K-9 Tino is pictured searching for lost articles on the Career Center Property. Also, officers brought their VR training system for students to experience.
The Madonna University Forensic Society uses ultraviolet sources to identify fibers and body fluids deposited on student clothing.
PRE-MEDICINE CLASS
Mrs. Vertin's Pre-Medicine students took a trip to the University of Toledo for a hands-on experience with an anatomy simulation lab, laparoscopic surgery fun, practicing how to intubate a patient, an extensive experience in the plastination lab, and another intense learning experience in the cadaver lab. They could see and touch real human organs and learn how they work. They were able to learn all of this from medical students who are currently enrolled in the Med school program. The students thoroughly enjoyed this experience!
ANIMATION & WEB DESIGN CLASS
Students in Animation/Web are working on Stop Motion Animation Projects that will be entered into the Michigan Industrial Education Technology Society's Annual Competition.
We can't wait to see their creativity come to life!
GAME DESIGN CLASS
Game Design students are studying how to build their own Games with Unity. Unity is one of the world's most popular game engines, which allows you to make cross-platform 2D, 3D, VR, AR, and mobile games. It powers indie and AAA games, films, job training apps, and much more making it a versatile program that's used across many different industries.
Students are getting started with C#, the programming language used to build Unity games. This will prepare them to build games in any genre-including RPG's, FPS games, survival games, strategy games, and more!
FASHION MERCHANDISING CLASS
Fashion Merchandising Visit to Central Michigan University
The Fashion Merchandising students had the opportunity to attend Central Michigan University. Grace Futrell, former Livonia Career Technical Center student and Stevenson High School alumni, invited the students to preview the” Behind the Curtains” fashion show. Grace, who was the producer of the show, addressed the audience sharing personal insights gained from her journey through the College of Fashion.
The students had an exciting opportunity to visit the campus and explore higher education. They explored the world of fashion with workshops conducted by seasoned fashion students and staff. Students gained knowledge of draping techniques used by designers to create garment prototypes. The technique used by students was various folds, pleats, and gathers to create unique silhouettes. Students had the chance to collaborate and brainstorm. The experience allowed students to have a better understanding of the garment construction and design process.
The conclusion of the field trip ended with students previewing the rehearsal of the fashion show “Behind the Curtains” which allowed the students to celebrate fashion and the limitless possibilities of the fashion and design industry.
Thank you to Mrs. Gray and Livonia Public Schools for making this field trip possible. It was one of the best hands-on experiences.
ADVANCED GRAPHIC DESIGN CLASS
The Advanced Graphic Design class had a ton of fun illustrating stories by 3rd-grade students in Ms. Duff's class at Buchanan Elementary. We also illustrated a coloring book and made stuffed animals out of concepts drawn by 1st-grade students in Ms. LaFave's class at Hoover Elementary. The project goals were to create based off of limited information being given by a client. Students had to work with their "client" and learn how to collaborate and take constructive feedback. They then had to incorporate feedback into their work to improve it. Our clients were very honest and loved the end products!
NATIONAL TECHNICAL HONOR SOCIETY
National Technical Honor Society has started to receive their honors cords. Students had to maintain a B or better in their respective CTE courses, maintain great attendance, attend meetings, and fulfill community service hours. We are so excited to see them represent LCTC at their graduation!
Congratulations!
