From the Principal's Desk
Hello Adler Park Families,
I know you have heard me talk about this more than once, but I would be eternally grateful if you would take the time to fill out our 5Essentials survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
I am already so thankful that you are taking the time to read this newsletter. As a parent myself, I know how taxing it can be to give 5 minutes here and 10 minutes there. Staying in touch with your child's school is so important. Please know that I appreciate YOU and the time you are giving to stay connected.

Student Council Service Project
This year's Student Council voted to make a blanket to donate to an animal in a shelter. If you bought anything from our Halloween or winter plant fundraisers, you helped fund the blanket purchase! Thank you to Student Council president Avery W. and her family who delivered it to Orphans of the Storm in Riverwoods.
We would also like to remind you that if you are considering adding a pet to your family, adopt don't shop! There are so many deserving animals in shelters who need homes, plus you save two lives when you adopt a rescue animal and create a space in the shelter for another animal to be rescued. The image below was created by Paloma, our historian.

Coming Soon to Adler!
Planning for 2024-2025 School Year
Registration for all new and returning families is open now and can be accessed on the District 70 website.
Registration for ALL students entering kindergarten through fifth grades is an annual process – the sooner you register, the sooner we have information that allows us to plan for staffing, space needs, etc.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten is such an important year for children. We are excited to meet next year’s kindergarten students and their families on April 11th from 6-7 PM in the Adler gym. On this special evening, students and parents will hear from the current kindergarten teachers to learn more about the Adler kindergarten experience. The students will go with the teachers for a brief story time during which time parents will hear from the principal and Adler Family Association with the “nuts and bolts” of attending school at Adler. You will also learn about more ways in August to help your child get ready for the start of the new school year (kindergarten screening and New Family Orientation).
Class Sizes
All kindergarten classes will be full-day classes. Class sections are based on student enrollment. Many factors go into administrative decisions for class sections: number of students, needs of students, practical space issues, etc... Ideal class sizes in Kindergarten through third grade are 23 or less students. Ideal class sizes in fourth and fifth grade are 26 or less. In some instances, teacher assistants can be brought in to support larger class sizes.
Teacher/Class Assignments
Student placement with teachers is a delicate process that involves dialogue with teachers with the goal of creating balanced classrooms. Teachers use academic, social/ emotional, and other factors to optimize student groupings. This is a complex process that involves a great deal of confidential information. Parent requests for teacher placement cannot be accepted and should not be submitted, as we would not be able to consistently grant numerous requests.
