SEMESTER 1 FINALS
Most classes will be giving a comprehensive final or project in December. Below is the Finals schedule. We encourage students attendance on those days. If a student should miss a class due to illness there are a few make-up times built in. If there is a pre-planned absence a parent/guardian should fill out the form on the AHS website and the student should follow-up with their administrator.
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
ACT ANSWERS & QUESTIONS
Students taking the National February ACT can order the questions and answer key after the exam. Research shows it’s one of the best tools for improving scores with a retest. Students can use promo code FEBTIR for a discount.
FREE ACT INFORMATION
On Friday, juniors learned about the Kansas Statewide ACT, which will be given on Tuesday, February 25th. This is a FREE ACT test that is given in a paper/pencil format during the school day. If a student wishes not to take the ACT test, another option for them that day is a FREE ASVAB test. More information about the ASVAB can be found by going to this website, and then click on the ASVAB tab. The ASVAB is taken on the Chromebook. Both tests are signed up for through the counseling office. Students who take one of these tests on February 25th will be dismissed after the test to go home for the rest of the day.
If a student does not want to take either test, they will be required to go to class the entire day. For students who wish for this option, or the ASVAB test (anything other than the ACT), they need to fill out the form in the Google Classroom Class of 2026 page and tell us they want to opt out of the ACT and do an alternative option. This needs to be done by the end of the day on Wednesday, December 11th. If they wish to take the ACT, no form is needed and no more action is required.
HOW T0 PREPARE FOR THE 2025–26 FAFSA® FORM
Prepare now so you can complete the 2025–26 FAFSA form as soon as it’s available on or before Dec. 1, 2024. Here are some ways you can get ready:
- Create a StudentAid.gov account (if you don’t already have one).
- Learn about the documents you may need to fill out the FAFSA form.
- Determine your dependency status and whether your parent(s) or spouse will be required to contribute information on your FAFSA form.
- If you’re a dependent student, use the Who’s My FAFSA Parent? wizard to identify which parent(s) will be a required contributor on your form.
BOOSTER VACCINES
Just a reminder that it is not too late to get your flu and COVID booster vaccines. We have seen an increase in upper respiratory symptoms among students over the last several weeks. The CDC has reported an increase in mycoplasma pneumoniae infections; symptoms range from congestion, sore throat, worsening cough, wheezing to fatigue, fever, chills and shortness of breath. This is spread through respiratory droplets, please be sure you are covering your cough and washing your hands! Please see this website for more information: https://www.cdc.gov/mycoplasma/about/index.html#cdc_disease_basics_symptoms-symptoms
