PANTHER PROGRESS
November 2024 Issue 4
Message From Our Administrators
Lincoln Family -
As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving in a few weeks, it’s an opportunity to think and reflect on what brings us thanks. Lincoln thanks our Lincoln CommUNITY and we are grateful for our 621 students and the families that partner with their education. We adore that 84% of our parents and families attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences last month and we value the opportUNITY to keep communication strong between home and school. Report cards will be going home this Friday and we look forward to celebrating the hard work of our students while we continue striving to meet and then exceed grade level expectations in every classroom. As mentioned at Parent-Teacher Conferences, you should be receiving your child’s weekly Lincoln Learner Report to showcase what they’re learning in each content area, how they feel they are performing in each subject, and their work habits through the Habits of Learning. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Most of all, we're fortunate each day that we have the chance to serve our students and families in our quest for excellence.
Thank you for being part of the Lincoln Family. We value you and appreciate your ongoing collaboration and trust.
Much Lincoln Love,
Eric Rhodes - Principal
Mary Beth Smith - Assistant Principal
Crosby Blair - Community School Coordinator

Regular school attendance is important for a student's academic and behavioral success. We need your help! Please make sure your child is coming to school regularly unless they are sick. Per FCPS policy, anytime a student is absent, the school must receive written documentation from the guardian and/or medical provider. Written communication can be in the form of an email, a Talking Points message, or a hand written note. Our ratings on the Maryland School Report Card are heavily impacted by our attendance rates. Reach out to our Community School Coordinator at Crosby.Blair@fcps.org with any attendance questions or needs.
Lincoln Learner Series #2
Are you interested in learning more about our English Language Arts (ELA), Math and/or Socio-Emotional Learning (SEL) programs? If so, join us for the second Lincoln Learner Series on Thursday, November 14th from 5-7pm. In this "Education Camp" style event, parents/guardians can rotate through several sessions to learn directly from our content specialists. Bus transportation will be provided from Fieldpointe Apartments and Windsor Gardens. Childcare for ages 3-5 will be provided by our Judy Center. Fliers will be sent home this week. Contact Crosby.Blair@fcps.org if you have any questions.
Panther Family Advisory Council (PFAC)
Be a part of our PFAC to help us improve our school environment and our learning community! Our first meeting is Thursday, November 7th from 5-6pm. Please email Crosby.Blair@fcps.org to RSVP.
Quarter 1 Awards Cermonies
To recognize and to congratulate those students that have achieved academically during the first quarter, we will hold Award Ceremonies in the cafeteria this week. Students may earn a Silver, Gold, or Most Improved Award. Parents and family members will be invited to these ceremonies during Quarter 4.
Positive Referral Recess
Did you know that our students can be nominated for a positive referral each month? Students that demonstrate consistent good behavior and/or exhibit any of our habits of learning (self-advocating, practicing social responsibility, demonstrating perseverance and having a learning mindset) celebrate with an extra recess at the end of each month. We had 95 students nominated in October and players from Hood College Men's Soccer and Women's Field Hockey teams joined us. Each student that is nominated also receives a certificate to take home. How cool!
Volunteering Training
Per new FCPS policy, any parent or family member that would like to chaperone a field trip must complete the volunteer training process. To assist with this process, we are offering two training sessions at the following times:
- Wednesday, November 6th from 4 - 6pm
- Friday, November 15th from 4 - 6pm
If you prefer, you can work through these steps on your own. Follow the Volunteer registration link for directions. Contact our Community School Coordinator at Crosby.Blair@fcps.org with any questions or needs.
Mobile Dental Clinic in December
In partnership with Smile Programs, the Mobile Dentist Clinic will be on site on December 11th and 12th. Fliers were sent home recently with students. If you have any questions, or would like an appointment for your child, please contact our CommUNITY liaison at Diana.Galaviz@fcps.org.
Lincoln Learner Reports
The Lincoln Learner Reports have restarted! One of our Panther priorities is making sure that parents are informed on what their child is learning each week in all of their subject areas. Even though we include curriculum information by grade level in this newsletter each month (see above), it is important for students to become aware of their own learning each week, while building "student agency." Student agency is defined as "a student's awareness of their progress towards reaching the learning outcomes and how we can increase their ownership/agency of their learning." It's also important for students and their families to reflect weekly on their "work habits," which we call the "Habits of Learning." The Lincoln Learner Report does both! This weekly communication will provide information to families on their child's progress with the academic standards they are learning and highlight their "Habits of Learning." Parent(s) will need to sign and return the Lincoln Learner Report each week to the teacher, which will confirm that the parent(s) saw the report and strengthens the partnership between home and school.
Farm To School
Our school gets regular visits from the FCPS Farm to School program. They were recently in our cafeteria hosting a taste tasting of lunch box peppers. Check out the Farm To School November Newsletter for more information.

We will provide a nutritious snack after school. Homework time will be provided daily Monday – Thursday along with other clubs for your child to participate in Tuesday - Thursday. Each month there are different clubs to choose from that will cater to the interests of all children. Our program also reinforces social emotional learning through our activities. Habits of Learning @ LNES
Our next step in the emotional regulation program is helping students connect what they’ve learned about their brain and body and apply it to their academic success. Lincoln has adapted the FCPS program of Habits of Work into our school wide “Habits of Learning for Lincoln leaders." We create in person and video lessons for students to teach them a common language. The student lessons can be found at this LINK.
This website has multiple resources for students and families. It also has videotaped lessons we use with students and parent videos that explain our emotional regulation program.
