Before there was a direct integration made by Google that would allow teachers to replicate the "make a copy" feature in Canvas that so many enjoy in Google Classroom, Canvas made their own (Google Drive Cloud Assignments).

Ever since Google created their own integration (Google Assignments LTI 1.3), we've know that the Google Cloud tool would eventually go away. It's now official - after May 2024, the tool won't be available.

What does that mean for you?

• Be sure to only use the LTI option when creating assignments or adding files from now on.
• Review any assignments you may have made previously using the Cloud tool and redo them so that they are now using the LTI tool instead.

I can't remember where I saw this anymore, but it's listed in my "list of things to add to the newsletter" so here it is! If you have already seen this and remember who I should credit, please let me know!

Aftel.net is a simple online timer that needs no sign-up or account. You can choose to enable dynamic background colors as it counts down, include a description of what the timer is for, let it go bananas when time is up, and even share a link to your timer!

I hear the frustration about images or audio/video not copying in Canvas. Unfortunately, it is a GLOBAL issue in Canvas's Rich Content Editor and will happen when copying from one course to another.

A work-around is to add your image, audio, or video files to a folder in your Google Drive, then add to your Canvas quiz question or page using the embed code.

To get the embed code

1. Select the item you want to add to Canvas from your Google Drive folder.
2. It will open in a preview window.
3. Click the 3 dots in the top right and select "Open in a new window."
4. It will open a new tab.
5. Click the 3 dots in the top right and select "Embed item..."
6. Copy the embed code that appears.

To add the embed code to the RCE in Canvas

1. Click the "cloud" button whereever you want to add your image/audio/video (if you don't see the cloud, click the 3 dots at the end of the menu bar to expand to two rows).
2. Paste the embed code you copied from Google.
3. Click OK.

Now when the item is copied, the image/audio/video will copy as well because it is pulling from the embed code, NOT an actual file.
