ANNOUNCEMENTS

Our Lost & Found rack is overflowing! There are NUMEROUS sweaters, sweatshirts, hats, water bottles, etc. that have been accumulating. Please remind your children to go through the rack and table in search of missing items. The rack is located next to the gymnasium. Any leftover items will be donated at the end of the year.

NOVEMBER HIGHLIGHTS

October Buddies: Miss Long‘s Kindergarten students and their third grade buddies in Mrs. Coon’s class created scary or fall themed houses using paper bags.

Mrs. Jones's fourth grade class and Ms. Landis's first grade class had a great time meeting their cross-age buddies and creating their own pumpkin art.

On Thursday, October 31st, third grade held their quarterly award ceremony. Awards were given for: Perfect Attendance, ROAR Behavior, Outstanding Progress in Math, Outstanding Progress in Reading, 5-Star Writing, Heart of Gold, and Above & Beyond. Congratulations to all the students and well done!

Perfect Attendance: for showing up every day the first quarter without any absences.

Roar Behavior: for demonstrating Responsibility, Ownership, Achievement & Respect.

Above & Beyond: for demonstrating going the extra mile academically and socially; always giving their best effort.

Heart of Gold: for demonstrating positivity, kindness, and helpfulness, making a meaningful difference in our school community.

5-Star Writing: for demonstrating creativity and skill through well-written paragraphs, neat handwriting, and effective grammar application.

Outstanding Progress in Reading: for demonstrating improved reading fluency and phonics skills.

Outstanding Progress in Math: for demonstrating remarkable growth in math skills through dedicated effort and determination.

On Friday, November 1st, Third grade students visited Millbrook High School to experience science stations planned by Millbrook students in the agriculture classes.

Students in Ms. Landis's first grade class used gourds to create object graphs that displayed their different sizes, shapes, colors, and textures.

Evendale Kindness Club students spread joy and kindness as their schoolmates arrived at school.

Mrs. Carty's Kindergarten class used two human-sized 10 frames to show and count bigger numbers!

Ms. Stein's first grade class learned about the importance of Veteran’s Day and why it is celebrated. The class did a collaborative coloring activity where they each received a different part of the picture, colored it, and then had to work together to put the pieces together to make the whole picture! Thank you to all of the men and women who serve or have served our country!

On World Kindness Day, Evendale Kindness Club readers read in First grade and Kindergarten classes. This year's theme is to teach Kindness: Educate children and young people about the importance of kindness and empathy through storytelling or classroom activities.

Mrs. Arey visited Ms. Landis' class to teach students about coding. Students explored using tiles to help their robot read words. They worked together to help their car navigate phonemes in order to spell words accurately. At the end the students celebrated their perseverance in solving difficult problems!

Mrs. Wittenberg's Kindergarten class and Mrs. Hammiel's second grade class got together on November 21st for their buddy activity. The students made a turkey that represented things they were thankful for. We even had one set of buddies that were unintentionally twinning!

On Tuesday, November 26 Ms. Coon’s third graders and Ms. Long’s Kindergarten students celebrated Friendsgiving with stories and creating turkeys out of Oreos. Students loved making their turkeys and really enjoyed eating them!

P.E. MATTERS- Teachers: Ms. Bartley & Mr. Minteer

In December we are continuing to collect permission forms for our January skating unit. The last day to send in signed permission forms and payment is Friday, December 13th. Payment does not guarantee participation, a signed permission form needs to be returned for participation. We are always looking for volunteers to help students put on and take off equipment. If you're interested in being a volunteer please email Mr. Minteer (minteerp@fcpsk12.net) or Ms. Bartley (bartleyh@fcpsk12.net) to be scheduled.

COUNSELOR'S CORNER

Classroom lessons with 5th grade just wrapped up. We discussed healthy vs. toxic friendships, effective problem solving strategies, and how to handle bullying behavior. The focus for December will be hosting lunch groups for specific needs and/or friends who want to enjoy a quiet lunch together! Also note that this is the time of year when chronic absences (10% or more of days missed), regardless of reason, can start to have a noticeable impact on grades and study habits. We encourage the development of good attendance habits and if you have any questions or concerns about this, or any other topics, that we can help with, please don't hesitate to reach out! NURSE'S NOTES

With the cold weather season in full swing, I want to take a minute to talk about head lice and how to treat and prevent the spread. Lice can be a problem for anyone but are most common for younger, elementary aged children. They are only transmitted by coming in direct contact with a person and they are not able to fly or jump and do not carry diseases. Some ways you can help prevent the spread are: Talking to your children about not sharing common items that touch the hair like hats, coats, hair accessories, and brushes or combs. You can also tell your child to let someone know if they feel like their head is itchy or tingling, or if you notice they are scratching excessively. If you notice any of these signs a simple scalp check, especially around the hairline and close to the scalp, will help you determine if there are live lice or nits (lice eggs). The nits will be attached to the hair closest to the scalp and will not flick off like dandruff will. If you discover someone has head lice don't panic, treatment is simple. Put long hair in a ponytail and check all members of the household. There are over-the-counter treatment options for those with active lice. There may be other options available as well if you call your pediatrician. Make sure to wash and dry any items that you are able to and vacuum all floors. Perform a second hair treatment 7- 10 days after, for newly hatched lice. For more information in English and Spanish, please follow the link for CDC guidance. https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/lice/head/index.html In addition, we have a lot of children come through the clinic that need a change of clothing. If we have provided your child with a change of clothing, please wash and return the items with your child. We have very limited resources in our school systems and operate off of donations from the community. Please consider donating any pants or new underwear to the clinic.

REMINDERS

Financial Assistance

If financial assistance is needed for upcoming school activities, like a field trip, please contact your student's teacher or the school office.

Evendale Elementary School is part of the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2024-25 school year. This means that all students can receive school breakfast and lunch at no cost. If a student wants to purchase a la carte items, they will need to pay for them. For example, if a student just wants milk (and not the full lunch) they will have to pay for it.

The School Nutrition Services Department strives to see that all children have access to healthful school meals and nutrition education and that the last child served receives the same quality and choices as the first child served. The department follows the guidelines as outlined in the Healthy Hunger Free Act of 2010. View the December menus.
