The Connection Week 2 Term 3
Huapai District School 4th August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
It’s surprising how often my mind drifts to the mountains. It might be that I have a screensaver with walks I have done in the mountains and it might also be that we are in the throes of organising three camps for kids at the moment. Either way, I am so pleased we are looking like we can get these opportunities back on the table for our children. Great things happen when we get children outdoors.
I am currently reading a book by Ed Viestors “No Shortcuts To The Top”. The writer outlines his journey of 18 years to climb all 14 mountains over 8000 metres. I find it inspiring to read and follow people’s insight into pushing things, persevering and managing risk. I am also finding myself transported to possibility when watching the current Commonwealth games. There are no shortcuts though!!
It is amazing how many times those dreams, those possibilities and options have been seeded by a parent. Thank you for all you do for your children. I can think of no greater return than the investment you make in your children.
Have a great week.
John Petrie
Principal

The Huapai Way
Our school is a PB4L school, which means we highlight and celebrate positive behaviour. They are the best they can be for the environment, self and team. We are aiming to grow children who graduate our school shining in the 6Cs - Citizenship, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, Character and Critical Thinking. This is our ‘Huapai Way’.
Last week we launched our new look certificate that will celebrate your child’s actions that demonstrate “The Huapai Way”.
Ella was the first recipient of the new award.
Term 3 School Donation Sponsored Prize Draw
Thank you to all those who have paid their school donations this year. This is such a key element to the success of our school. Your donation is what moves our school from good to great!
As a means of thanking you, every family who has paid their school donation in full by Wednesday 31st August will automatically go into our 2nd smaller annual draw in Term 3, to recognise those families that are not able to pay in full for our bigger April prize draw. Families with more than 1 child who have paid the family donation will have 2 entries.
Prizes to include a 50% discount to our Huapai Plus programme to the value of $100 and bottles of wine.
You can pay your school donations through Hero, if paid in full.
Alternatively for part of full payments, you can pay via direct deposit to the school bank account as per your invoice or below:

School Cross Country
On Tuesday 16th August we are set to run our school cross country at the Huapai Domain. This time last year, we had to pivot and make it online due to lockdown. We are hoping that we can all be there in person this year!
Event details can be found here at the link below.
School NZ Dance Challenge
We are pleased to announce that our entry into the NZ Dance Challenge 2022 has come away with an award.
This is the first year we have taken part and our Year 5 and 6s really didn't know what to expect. After a lot of practice and a lot of videoing, our entry won the KIWI GARDEN CREATIVITY AWARD. What an amazing effort! Well done Huapai!
You can watch the video at the link below.
Mud Run
On Wednesday we had over 60 students involved in the local Tough Guy and Gal Challenge. This annual event was held at the new location of Kumeu Showgrounds. The students showed grit and determination as they made their way around the course.
Look out for the registration details in our school newsletter around May next year.
