Homework Lab is our after school program that helps ensure the kids are getting their homework done each day. The way this works is if a child comes to class without their work completed, they are asked to stay after school until 4:00 to complete the work and/or complete other work. Your child will call, email, or text you to let you know they have to stay. There are times when a child cannot stay and we can work around those times.

A few reminders:

Absences reported online can only apply for the day of the absence.

The window to report online is only open until 9:30am each day.

September is Attendance Awareness Month, a campaign that highlights the strong connection between school attendance and academic achievement.

During the 2022-2023 school year, 69,000 students or 22% of Nebraska students were chronically absent. Chronic absence is defined as missing 10% of a school year or about 18 days. It counts all absences: excused, unexcused, and suspensions. Millard Public Schools has 176 school days in the 2024-2025 school year. Based on chronic absenteeism research it is recommended that a student miss less than nine days of school.

Absenteeism and its ill effects start early. One in 10 kindergarten and first grade students are chronically absent. Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or are held back. By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school. When students improve their attendance rates, they improve their academic prospects and chances for graduating.
