Newcomb News Vol. 4 Issue 5
Dear Newcomb K-8 Families and Friends,
It has been a really, really, hot week at school. Thank goodness our AC is working in all buildings and classrooms. Students are able to work comfortably while inside. Outside it has been hot. We have our cafeteria and auditorium open for our students to stay out of the sun. We are grateful to our PTSA for passing out water at recess and popsicles after school on Thursday. The first part of this week is forecasted to be hot so we will continue to make our students as comfortable as possible.
Picture Day is this week. Ordering information and details are outlined in this weeks newsletter.
If you have not already please become a member of our PTSA and the Newcomb Foundation. There is information about both organizations below in this newsletter.
This is the last week of 1:00 pm dismissal for TK and Kindergarten. Starting on Monday, 9/16 TK & Kinder will start their regular schedule and be dismissed at 2:00 pm.
We need your help! We need all families to complete the Parent Information Packet by 9/13. Here is the link- https://forms.gle/5V12yMJfA5gw9goF7 We also have QR codes placed around school. All students will be entered in a raffle and classes with 100% completion will get a class prize. Thanks for your help. You will be getting texts this week to remind you to complete this Google form.
Go Spartans!!!!!

Please No Food Deliveries
Parents and Guardians-
Please do not have fast food delivered or dropped off in the office. This creates problems for our office staff. The food also attracts ants. In rare cases food is picked up be the wrong person. We do not have the staffing to monitor items left in the office. If a student forgets their lunch, all students have access to a free breakfast and lunch in the Cafeteria. Thanks for your help with this.
Respectfully-
The Newcomb Team
Behavior Expectations Assembilies
This week all our students grades 1-8 participated in expectations assemblies. During these meetings the Newcomb staff reviewed rules and expectations and discussed how students can share concerns. Our goal is to ensure the safety and comfort of all our students. If your child(ren) are having issues at school please encourage them to talk to their teacher or another trusted adult. We will be meeting with Kindergarten and TK classes individually to talk about how to be a Spartan Scholar this week. Expectation slides are shared below-
Emergency Drill Schedule
Below is our emergency drill schedule for the entire year. We practice each month evacuating the entire school. Staff and students prepare for fire and earthquake emergencies and we also practice Lock Down Drills (in the event there is an intruder on campus or police activity in the neighborhood). We also practice Shelter in Place Drills in the event their is an environmental emergency like heavy rain or a lightning storm, bee swarm or gas link. All classrooms are equipped with first aide kits and emergency supplies. This year we will be practicing a full scale disaster drill in February. The Newcomb team is fully prepared to ensure the health and safety of all our students and staff.
If you should have any questions about emergency drills at Newcomb please e-mail Mr. Thompson at- cthompson@lbschools.net.

The Foundation has already committed $143,840 to Newcomb Academy for the 2024/2025 school year! This funding will profoundly impact our students by supporting STEAM enrichment programs, including Science Lab, Music, Art, Middle School Drama, and an exciting new Robotics program for TK-5. Additionally, we've protected our Literacy and Math Intervention for K-5 and are continuing STAR Tutoring to provide essential support in core subjects. The Foundation is also proud to support the Middle School Scholarship Program, fostering community service and academic excellence among our middle school scholars.
