President's Message
Hello Hiteon Families!
It's been a busy spring so far. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Science Expo and those volunteers who have stepped up to help in their student's classroom and with Art Lit. If you are still looking for a way to plug back in to our Hiteon Community, there are many ways to volunteer this month. You can help honor our staff during Staff Appreciation Week, May 2-6, attend Art Literacy training on May 10 or sign up to help with the Book Fair, May 11-18. And of course there is Fun Run on May 12. We need many volunteers to help our biggest fundraiser run smoothly. To sign up go to myvolunteerpage.com today!
See you around the school!

Hiteon Community Cookbook: Deadline EXTENDED to April 29th!
Let’s celebrate Hiteon’s cultural diversity by sharing a recipe! The Hiteon Community Cookbook will be a collection of recipes and artworks that reflect our community’s traditions and cultural backgrounds.
The Hiteon PTC Diversity & Inclusion Committee invites you to submit a favorite recipe to share with our Hiteon community. Recipes will be compiled into the Hiteon Community Cookbook. We would love to learn about your family heritage recipe story! Hiteon families, teachers, and staff are invited to submit a recipe here.
When submitting a recipe, please include a summary, story, or family tradition related to your recipe in the NOTES section. Along with your recipe, you can upload a photo of the dish or of your family cooking together. Your student may wish to submit a drawing to accompany the recipe as well – it’s up to you! All recipes and artworks will be compiled into a community cookbook that will be shared on Hiteon PTC social media and will be available for download. Cookbooks may optionally be purchased as well (more details to come).
Example recipes and instructions on submitting your recipe can be found on the Hiteon PTC Website.
In addition to recipes, we’d love to include your student’s cookbook-related art in our community cookbook. If your student would like to submit a drawing for inclusion in the cookbook, please email a copy to HiteonPTCcookbook@gmail.com. JPEG, PNG, PDF, or PSD files only please. All artwork submitted will be included in the cookbook and shared on Hiteon PTC social media.
Please submit by April 29, 2022 and if you have any questions, please email the HiteonPTCcookbook@gmail.com. Thank you very much for your support!

Diversity and Inclusion: Celebrating Easter in Ukraine
Easter is the brightest, most majestic holiday in Ukraine, and it is celebrated with a variety of traditions. The word for “Easter” in Ukrainian is “Velykden”, which translates to “Great Day,” and it is one of the biggest holidays in the country. Some families start preparing for Easter two months in advance by fasting; others simply reflect during this period about God and living in harmony with nature.
Ukrainians celebrate Easter by baking Paska (a special Easter Bread) and making “pysanky” (Easter eggs). Paska is a delicious, sweet, festive bread that is rich in butter and eggs and baked only for Easter. Baking Paska is a ceremonial affair in Ukraine and traditionally, Paska is eaten after it is blessed at the Easter Service on Sunday.
Another important Ukrainian tradition is writing pysankys, which are eggs decorated with particular ornamentation and folk patterns that have special meanings. A pysanka is a real piece of art, which requires a good amount of time and effort to create! They are gifted to friends and family and are believed to protect homes from evil spirits and misfortune.
You can read more about celebrating Easter in Ukraine here or here.
