Team Dublin Weekly Update
Week of May 27, 2024
Field Trip
******* Please have your student return the field trip permission form by Friday, May 31st. *******
On June 12th Team Dublin students will participate in an end-of-year trip to celebrate all their hard work, progress and growth. This year, students will attend an exhibit at Artechouse, an immersive art experience, followed by lunch on the Smithsonian National Mall with their teammates and teachers.
Mr. Kirschenbaum, ELA
This week, students took the End-of-Year Reading Inventory Assessment. The goal for the end of the year for a 6th grader is 925. I posted the student scores in ASPEN. This week, we will begin reading Beowulf A New Telling.
Mr. O'Malley, Math 6 and 7
Ms. Wesselhoft, Geography
What a great week wrapping up our International Museum projects! The exhibits were great, and all students made a great effort to turn out some amazing projects. Next week, we begin Unit 7: The Americas. Students will map, learn vocabulary, and analyze thematic maps for the Americas. They will have a quiz on Tuesday, June 3rd.
Ms. Osman, Science
We have completed a VERY busy week. We started the week by finishing our presentations on Space Trash machines. Some classes were lucky enough to have outside judges who had fun seeing the creative and innovative ideas for making space use better. We continued our discussion about the connection and difference between correlation and causation by using graphs that were related this to our unit on Climate and Human Impact. Students worked with graphs showing data about temperature, sunspots, solar irradiance, and CO2 emissions while discussing correlation and causation.
This week is all about our End Of Year (EOY) MAP testing! This will be the third time that the 6th grade scientists have taken this test. They know the drill: Tuesday and Wednesday (and possibly Thursday, as needed) working on it. Please ensure that your student has something to eat, gets enough sleep, and has a book to read when finished. Please emphasize that the goal is do a personal best! At the end of the week, we will be jumping into our lessons on urban design in response to climate change, specifically with white and green roofs. How cool is that? Inquiring minds want to know!
Congratulations on completing the ADMS Roots Curriculum, scientists! Now that most of us have finished our Summative as of Friday, we only have some roots to review and then we are officially COMPLETE (done, finished, over) with Roots! To all of our people at home, thank you for helping your students study their root words and expand their scientific vocabulary.
Finally – please help your student turn in missing work.
OKAY – one more thing – SUPPLIES!!! Students still NEED PENCILS – WE ARE STILL DOING WORK.
AND ANOTHER THING - students who would like a drink of water save time by using the filtered water here in the classroom. I provide the filters. We went through about half the remaining stock of cups today. In other words – please send in some paper cups (8-12 oz size) Thank you.
Ms. Patsalos, Intermediate ESOL
This week students will take their End-of-Year (EOY) Phonics Inventory assessment. The best way for students to prepare is to work on System 44 both in class AND at home.
