Welcome Kindergarten Families
Dr. George Washington Carver School (SFUSD)
You are in the right space, and we can't wait to see your face!
From the Principal's Office
Welcome to Dr. George Washington Carver Academic Elementary School (SFUSD). We are pleased to welcome you to our school and loving village of educators.
My name is Ms. Makaela Manning, and I am the principal of the school!
I was born and raised right here in San Francisco, I have worked in the field of education for over 20 years. I have had the pleasure and honor of working with children and families in our great city here in SF, Chicago, and even in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates! I came back to my hometown to share stories about places I have traveled and people I have met, but to also encourage our students to get out and explore this big world!
Please read this newsletter, and get to know a bit about our school.
Welcome, again, and I look forward to meeting you.
Warmly,
Principal Manning
Welcome to Room 253!
Please meet your Kindergarten Team for school year 2024-2025! Our teacher's name is Ms. Savannah Albright! Ms. Albright has taught kindergarten at Carver school for three years and has created a community of readers and learners in the class. Our kinder friends are equipped with the academic and social skills that are a necessary building block in elementary school.
Alongside Ms. Albright, please meet our classroom assistant Ms. Ellen Lawson! Ms. Lawson has been a classroom educator for multiple decades and enjoys working with our youngest learners. Together, she and Ms. Albright have created a fun, safe, and engaging learning environment!
We look forward to welcoming you to our school!

Welcome to Carver Kits!
Our team will be reaching out to you this week to introduce ourselves, and welcome you to Carver School. We will also encourage you to accept your placement so that your child's spot is secured in our kindergarten class for the fall.
We will also ask to verify your home address because we would like to deliver a special welcome package to your scholar. The package includes a backpack, water bottle, activity books, and Carver swag!
You will also have an opportunity to register your child for our summer program. Details of that program are below!
Carver x Beacon Summer Sessions
Newly enrolled kindergarten students are encouraged to register and attend our summer experience here at Carver school. In partnership with the SF Beacon Initiative and the Boys and Girls Club of San Francisco, our summer experience allows students access to academics in the morning, and enrichment and field trips in the afternoons.
We think this is a great way for new students to get to know our campus, and some of our staff so that the first day of school in August is not so scary at all.
When we deliver your Welcome Kit, you will have an opportunity to register your child for summer on the spot!
