Seco Scoop
Arroyo Seco Jr. High School -- May 8, 2020
Principal's Message
Hello Seco Families,
We are now down to the last few weeks of the school year, which officially ends June 4. Thank you for your ongoing patience and support, especially these past several weeks of distance learning.
Please note that, due to the Memorial Day holiday on May 25, there has been an adjustment to the distance learning schedule that week. Classes that typically "meet" on Monday will meet that Friday, May 29, replacing the regular Friday schedule for that week only.
We are in the process of putting together an Awards Video which we look forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks.
We have developed a drive-thru process to pick up PE items and return textbooks, etc. Please read the information below and check the schedule carefully to take note of when your child is scheduled to participate. This information has also been shared by email and is also available on the school's website.
See below for information about summer school and links to the applications.
We miss all of you and hope you are well. Have a great week!
Year End Collection and Distribution Schedule
Arroyo Seco has organized a drive-thru procedure to collect school items and to
distribute student belongings. This will occur on May 19, 20, & 21, and will follow the schedule outlined at the link below. Please take special note of the grade level, date, and alphabetical time slot reserved for your child. We look forward to seeing all of our students and families as they drive through the Arroyo Seco campus.
Please note that yearbooks will be distributed at a later time, to be determined.
Weekly Wellness
Many kids seem to be struggling with stress and anxiety during distance learning and stay at home orders. It is so important to learn to acknowledge those feelings, process them, and then find healthy outlets for those emotions. Here are some cool resources to check out to help cope with any stress, anxiety, anger, sadness, etc:
Work2BeWell created a new toolkit to help work through and redirect those negative feelings we people might be experiencing, especially during this time. These simple exercises and refocusing techniques can help all of us—kids, parents, and teachers—manage stress and anxiety and stay in control over our emotions. Access the toolkit here and share it with your friends, family, and colleagues! I hope it helps as we all move forward to brighter days.
Share how you cope with stress on social to help #spreadpositivity. Tag them on Instagram and Twitter (@icanhelpoffical) and use #LetsTalk and #TogetherWeCan to spread good vibes in our community.
Also, don’t forget that we officially have a Wellness Website where you can access different “Health and Wellness” related resources, including:
Wellness Warm-Line Request Form for the district. The Wellness Warm-Line is a non-emergency resource for all WSHUSD students seeking emotional support. The goal of the warm-line is to provide support prior to a mental health crisis. Some concerns callers share are stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationship issues, panic, corona-blues, or are just having a bad day and need to talk to someone.
Resource Request Support for all district families. Any district family/student that needs support during Covid-19, they can request to access support from our school social workers (i.e. food insecurity, housing insecurity, job support, referrals, gov't aide support, etc).
Emotional Support
There's a lot that's gone on this school year, but you don't have to go through it alone. Even though we aren't on campus there still support available for students, parents, AND staff. Whether you need to vent, you need coping strategies, suggestions or just someone to talk to, our team is here to help. Meet our support team:
- School Social Worker - Ira Rounsaville: Supports students, parents and staff
- School Social Worker Intern - Mayda Thornton: Supports students and parents; Spanish speaking
- Seminar Teacher - Rachael Senen: Supports students
