Welcome Back!

I'm so excited to begin my fourth year as Principal of LeVasseur Elementary School. As I enter my 34th year in education I am reminded how fortunate I am to be working with such a dedicated staff of teachers, teacher assistants, and support staff. They truly are the best! Thank you for entrusting your children to us. We strive each day to challenge them academically, support them emotionally, and love them like they were ours. Please reach out to me with any concerns or questions at any time. As always, our doors are open to you!

We are so excited to begin the 24-25 school year! A tremendous amount of work has been done by all to prepare our grounds, building, and classrooms for our students and families. Be sure to join us at Orientation/Open House/Supply Drop-off on Monday, August 19th to see all the new changes. Our grade level Open Houses are staggered to accommodate parking, so please do not come until your designated grade level time. I also want to invite you to visit our the LeVasseur Elementary School website. This will be updated regularly with important reminders, notices, and events that will give us another avenue to stay in close communication with our families. Thank you to all families that have completed the registration process for the 24-25 school year. If you have not yet proven residency and completed registration for the school year, please contact (815-929-4500) the LeVasseur office immediately. Student schedules will be released next Wednesday and if you are not registered by then, your student account will become inactive in Skyward. Any student not registered by August 16th will not be eligible to start school on the first day as they will not have any teacher assignments or a schedule. School offices will not be available to register students between August 19th-21st. Late registrations will resume on August 22nd.

It has been a busy summer here at LeVasseur Elementary! We continue to improve our building and facilities to better accommodate students and learning. New siding and a new roof was added. New landscaping is being added as well. The old trophy case was removed and beautiful planters installed at our entrance. In addition, our custodians Mr. Tom, Mr. Greg, and Mr. Scott have worked tirelessly in scrubbing, waxing, and cleaning our building. It looks beautiful!

Y-Kids will return again this school year as our before and after school care at LeVasseur. If you are interested in learning more about their service you may call 815-933-1741 or go to K3YMCA.org. Y Kids doors open at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. This is a separate entity from our school district and school. Please call the above number for concerns or questions regarding Y Kids.

LeVasseur understands the need of some parents sending a phone or smart watch with their child to school. Please be aware that the expectation is for students to keep their phone in their backpacks at all times. Smart watches are expected to be worn and not "played with" or used to text during school hours. These expectations will be shared with our students. Should students not follow these expectations, a warning will be given. If there is a second incident, the phone or smart watch will be confiscated and a parent/guardian will have to pick it up at school.

Again this year, we will be offering digital report cards only. Directions on how to view your child's report card at the end of our first nine weeks will be communicated to parents. If you are unable to view your child's report card online, you can call our office and request a paper copy be sent home with your child.

K-3 A.M. Arrival Procedures

• Pull forward until you see the designated staff member who will assist your child in exiting the vehicle.
• Have your child ready to exit from the passenger side.

K-3 P.M. Dismissal Procedures

• Children are never allowed to go to the parking lot unattended by an adult.
• Display your car rider number in the passenger side dashboard or visor.
• Remain in your car and pull forward. Your child will be waiting for you at a designated spot along the "island". Staff members will be with them to assist.

Pre-K Dismissal Procedures

• Pre-K parents should pull up to doors 5/6 where the Pre-K teacher will be waiting with your child.

K-3rd Grade and Head Start

8:45 a.m.-3:30 p.m. (Doors open for drop-off at 8:30 a.m.)

Pre-K A.M.- Doors open for drop-off at 8:33 a.m.

Pre-K P.M.- Doors open for drop-off in front of school at 12:45 p.m. Pick-up is at doors 5/6.

* Car rider drop-off students must remain in the car until staff members are present at 8:30 a.m.

Do not send e-mails or voicemails for teachers regarding transportation changes. Teachers may be absent or unable to check their messages before the end of the day.

Parents will go through Skyward to add money to students account for school breakfast/lunch. Students will use ID to purchase lunch/breakfast. Cash or check will not be accepted.

Breakfast ends at 8:45 a.m. If your child will be eating breakfast at school, please drop them off in time to eat.

If you feel you qualify for free or reduced meals, please fill out the application. You may fill out this information in Family Access online (Skyward). If you need assistance, please call our office, 815-929-4500.

Only nonedible birthday treats are allowed. Please see our district wellness policy on our District Website.

• If your child will be a car rider, please make sure your car rider number is hung on your review mirror. If you do not have a car rider number, please call the office.
• Please notify the office or your child's teacher prior to 2:00 p.m. for any change in end of the day transportation.
• Please help keep our students safe by following all traffic patterns at arrival and dismissal. If you are planning on walking your child to the entrance, use one of our parking spots otherwise you may stay in your car by using the car drop off lane. See map for traffic patterns.
