A MESSAGE FROM MS. RILEY
SERVICE LEARNING PATHWAY
The HVCHS Service Learning Pathway is now accepting applications for enrollment for the 2024-25 school year! The Service Learning Pathway is open to all students, and allows for an opportunity to extend education beyond school and into the community. Students will help to meet community needs through individual service hours, and will develop and implement a culminating project during senior year with a local non-profit organization. Participation in the pathway will not impact the students' academic schedule.
This inclusive pathway provides social-emotional and academic benefits for the student participants, reflecting Dr. Martin Luther King’s belief that “Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve.” Beyond the academic and social-emotional value of participating in the Service Learning Pathway, students will also receive an endorsement on their transcript and diploma, a personalized letter of recommendation from Ms. Riley, and recognition at the Service Learning Recognition Gala in the spring of their senior year.
Currently, over 40 students are enrolled in the Service Learning Pathway. The students completed over 1000 hours of service during the 2023-24 school year, and many students qualified for national recognition through the Presidential Service Award.
Interested students should review the Service Learning Pathway website and the pathway expectations and complete the application form prior to June 15, 2024 for potential enrollment in the upcoming school year.
FINAL EXAMS
Based on feedback from students and staff, as well as a recommendation from the District Grading Committee, HVCHS has developed a schedule for final exams and projects. By limiting assessments to specific dates and organizing assessment dates by subject area, we hope to reduce student stress. We are following a calendar of events summarized here:
June 6 - 11:
- Final Letter Day Cycle
- no assessments given in English, Math, Science, Social Studies
- World Language and other final exams/projects administered during class periods
- F Day Schedule
- no assessments (exams, projects, presentations) given
- assessments given in English & Math during exam blocks
- early dismissal for students (bus transportation provided)
- assessments given in Science & Social Studies during exam blocks
- early dismissal for students (bus transportation provided)
General Notes:
- The exam schedule and exam locations will be released next week.
- Please note: students who are testing in an alternate location due to the accommodations they have been approved to receive will be contacted individually.
- Students who would like to leave school prior to dismissal on final exam days must be signed out of school in person in the main office by a parent or guardian. Please be sure to send a note into school with your child so we can plan accordingly.
- Many AP level classes and resource level classes will be not be taking final exams. On June 13 & 14, only students who are taking final exams are required to attend school. Students who are not taking final exams, but would like to attend school, should report to the cafeteria, where they will be supervised.
REMINDERS
- Early Dismissal: Students who need to be dismissed from school early must submit a note from a parent or guardian to the Main Office at the start of the school day. The student will then receive a pass allowing them to be dismissed from class and report to the Main Office at the requested time. Per board policy parents/guardians must sign the student out in person in the Main Office before the student can be dismissed (regardless of age or driving status). Also, students must be in school for at least four hours in order to participate in any after-school/evening activities.
- Parking: Please only park in designated visitor parking spots at HVCHS. Unauthorized parking in reserved handicapped spots is illegal, and parking at the Mercer County library during HVCHS events is not permitted.

A Message From the PTO:
Earlier this year, you should have received emails with important information about our Class of 2027 family donation. The emails also contained a link to photos taken at the Freshman Semi-Formal dance. Please click HERE to view the email. If you are not receiving our bi-monthly Dog Byte newsletter or class specific emails, you may be missing important updates from us because you’re not in the PTO database. Click HERE to enroll and scroll to 'Register or Log In' to create an account. Please note when signing up that the PTO annual appeal is separate from the class of 2027 family donation and both are completely optional, but very much appreciated.
