RAM's Message
It is undeniable that we have just concluded a particularly challenging election season. I know that many of you are feeling anxious and tense about the election results, and are concerned about how it may affect our families, communities, and our personal futures. Furthermore, I'm well aware that many of our students are wondering about the very same things, and are still working on how to process the election results.
We also understand that we have a diverse student body, not only in backgrounds and culture, but also in political engagement and alignment. Some of our students will be just finding out about the election this week, while others may have come to school with heightened emotions after watching a long election season. Having said that, I encourage each of you to have conversations with your students, if they are engaged with the election process. To that end, I would like to recommend the following resources from the San Mateo County Office of Education. They contain parent resources, and discussion guides for political discussion.
Many things will be changing in this country moving forward, but I am heartened by the fact that our mission here will always remain the same: To support any and all students that come through our doors, as we guide them towards success. Thank you for your commitment in keeping our school a place where students feel safe, understood, and respected.
Best regards,
Westmoor Administration Team
November is Native American Heritage Month!
Mx P is recommending two Native American Authors to students this week.
Louise Erdrich
has written over a dozen award winning novels. Ms. Erdrich is half Ojibwe and half European, growing up with parents who taught at a school ran by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Ms. Erdrich was exposed to the struggle of Native American People at a Young Age. Her books offer characters that one deeply connects with.
Tommy Orange
is a Native American author who grew up in Oakland, California. Both of his books are award winners. His books speak to the struggle of Native Americans who have left the Reservation but are still trying to connect to their heritage.
Come check these two authors out!!!
