MESSAGE FROM DR. PAPA
Throughout the month of January our students have participated in the Wiz Fit Challenge. They have experienced two assemblies with members of the Harlem Wizards and thoroughly enjoyed the activities, music, and challenges. Our students did an outstanding job of raising money as we are on pace to accomplish our goal of $5,000. We will celebrate our achievement on Friday, February 7 with a school assembly and some members of our community will receive a pie in the face; I wonder who that might be! We look forward to the Harlem Wizards vs. the JTMS teachers game on Friday, February 7th at Jefferson Twp. High School at 7:30. To purchase tickets, please follow the link below. Thank you to our JCPTA for this exciting fundraiser and for challenging us to be fit!
We concluded the month of January with The Great Kindness Challenge. Each day of the week our staff led our students with different activities focused on friendship, respect, and kindness. Students created kindness posters in art class with Mrs. Trevenen and participated in a Purpose Full People activity in their classrooms. We appreciate Miss Santini, Ms. Yermal, and our entire staff for leading our school through this important challenge as it provides our students with far-reaching, life-long skills and strategies as they grow and mature.
I want to recognize Mrs. Gesek and her students for their participation in the Blankets of Hope project. This experience reinforces the power of empathy and compassion which are lessons that will make a lasting impact on our students. Please see more information below.
We are looking forward to many exciting events coming up for our school community in February and March. I hope you have a great day.

WIZ FIT CHALLENGE
We are excited to announce that the students of Jefferson School District are teaming up with the World Famous Harlem Wizards to help us raise funds for the JCPTA with their new WizFit Challenge fundraiser and kids experience. During a two-week period starting on 01-13-2025 our students will watch and participate in an exclusive series of six interactive video episodes led by Harlem Wizard stars Swoop and Broadway. They will get fit, learn tricks, have fun, earn prizes, and be coached on character by the Wizards.
We will then conclude this event on 01-27-2025 with a Graduation Celebration where every student will participate and win free prizes.
The purpose of the JCPTA sponsored fundraiser is to raise essential funds that will enable us to organize fun and engaging events for our children while also enhancing Stanlick and Briggs' environment. By participating, you will help us provide enriching activities that foster community spirit, promote student engagement, and create a positive atmosphere for learning. Together, we can make our schools a vibrant place where every child can thrive and enjoy their educational experience! Our goal is to raise $5,000. Students can request donations from friends and family to support them participating in the WizFit Challenge. We're excited to see our school come together for this fundraising program.
CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHTS
Every month we will highlight one grade level, one specialist, and one special education classroom to showcase the great things happening here at Arthur Stanlick inside of our classrooms.
FIFTH GRADE HIGHLIGHTS
MRS. GESEK: Mrs. Gesek’s 5th grade class embraced the act of giving by participating in a global movement called Blankets of Hope. Blankets of Hope is an educational 501(c)3 nonprofit that helps students practice empathy & kindness by donating blankets and handwritten letters to people experiencing homelessness. The students were required to take part in a kindness workshop which was followed by writing inspiring letters. The blankets will be delivered to the Market Street Mission and then distributed to those in need of love and warmth. Mrs. Gesek’s students are spreading kindness one blanket at a time.
MISS KAJETZKE: In our fifth-grade classroom, students are diving into a fascinating nonfiction research project about dinosaurs and the different time periods they lived in, inspired by the nonfiction StoryWorks passage "Day of Doom." This passage tells the story of a worldwide disaster that wiped out the dinosaurs, marking the end of their reign and forever changing life on Earth. As part of their project, each student is researching different dinosaurs, and learning about the events that led to the mass extinction. They are discovering how this event shifted the planet’s ecosystems, allowing mammals to rise and eventually leading to the world we know today. Through articles and online resources, the students are uncovering the mysteries of the past, piecing together how this ancient disaster reshaped life on Earth.
MRS. SCOGNAMIGLIO: In our Language Arts class we are beginning to write biographies. The students are in the process of selecting a subject for their biographies whom they are interested in and excited to research using several sources to build knowledge.
MRS. TARABOCCHIA: In our science class we have been learning all about food chains. Students watched the Mystery Science video "Why would a hawk move to New York City" to understand how food chains are formed. Students learned that when we explore nature and observe any living organism we can ask two questions "what does it eat?" and "what eats it?" to identify which food chain the organism belongs to. To reinforce their learning, students had the opportunity to do a hands-on activity creating food chains. In this game students competed against one another to create as many food chains as possible with various "I'm eaten" and "I eat" cards. They were also tasked with making the longest possible food chain with their cards. Students had to use critical thinking skills to create longer food chains by either adding on or inserting cards to existing chains. This fun activity helped to cement their learning and was a big hit with our 5th graders!

MRS. CARBONE'S MAKE HEALTHY HABITS A PRIORITY
With the cold and flu season underway, please remember it is important to keep your child home when he/she is not feeling well. If your child has a temperature of 100℉ or higher, they must remain home until fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication. Some tips for staying healthy: stay hydrated, get adequate sleep, wash your hands often, and eat a balanced diet (which includes fruits and vegetables).
Next month we will celebrate Wellness Week February 18th-21st. During this week, your child will learn about various aspects of their health. We will have a visit from Dr. Harte, a local orthodontist, who loves educating the students about dental hygiene. Students will have daily trivia. The homeroom with the highest score will earn extra recess. For a chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card, students can participate in a food journal challenge. Be on the lookout for details, which will be distributed the week prior.
As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns!

DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
In the month of January our staff focused time on teaching the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King's life, legacy, and his message of equality and acceptance. Students watched his I Have A Dream Speech and completed classroom activities centered around his dream. In Mrs. Grisi's first grade class, a student commented that their relative was in attendance for the speech in August 1963.
"Life's most persist and urgent question is, "What are you doing for others?" - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
