MENPS News
Te Whare Akoranga o Maungawhau, Oct 31, 2024
From The Principal
Kia ora koutou
Today brings two very different events of significance, beginning with the major religious and cultural festival of Diwali.
I'd like to pass on sincere best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity from the MENPS team to all families celebrating this important event.
Halloween Disco!
In a stark contrast to all things light and joyful, today also brings the ‘spookiness’ of Halloween, of course!
Always a popular annual event for children, this is a chance to cut loose, dress up, have fun and also come along to the PTA Halloween Disco on Friday after school!
Sincere thanks to the organising team, and also the parent helpers who have volunteered to lend a hand at the event.
Christmas Book Drive (collection tomorrow)
Just in case you missed it, a reminder that our Student Council has been hard at work organising contributions for the ‘Kiwi Christmas Book Drive’, due tomorrow, Friday, 1st November.
This is an NZ charity that donates NEW childrens’ books (for preschool to 12 yrs) for children who, sadly, don’t receive a gift on Christmas Day.
To get behind this worthwhile event and make a difference for those less fortunate, tomorrow is the day for collections. Children are asked to donate one or more children’s books to the charity (brand new only - not used books) if they can.
Please note that donating is completely optional, but - as an added incentive - students who do donate a book have special permission to enjoy a “non-uniform” day tomorrow. As you'd expect, students who do not donate must wear their school uniform as usual.
The Student Council will be collecting book donations under the canopy area on the top court, from 8:15 to 9:00 am tomorrow.

Can you be our next PTA Co-Treasurer??
We have two wonderful treasurers who support the PTA. One role covers day to day treasury logistics (eg banking and eftpos administration). We are looking for someone to take over the second treasury role, which is more accounting focused.
The role involves:
- Co-authorising bank payments
- Completing monthly bank reconciliations
- Completing annual financial statements and lodging them on the Charities Services website
- Occasionally issuing invoices to sponsors
Time commitment is approx an hour per month, plus a couple more hours at year end to do the financial statements. Basic accounting knowledge will be necessary, but it's not complicated if you are familiar with book-keeping. We use MYOB which is super intuitive. Because you can choose when you complete the monthly tasks, this role is a great way to contribute to the school if you have a basic understanding of accounting and a bit to juggle in your schedule.
If you are interested in the role or you have any questions, please email us: menpspta@gmail.com.
