Juniors, your time is coming! Small group meetings have been held to start the conversation about your senior year. Guidance will soon be calling you down individually to begin planning for next year.
Exciting opportunities are on the horizon for our juniors. On May 2nd, they went into Boston for a national college fair, a chance to explore various higher education options.
Sophomores and juniors interested in the trades will have a unique opportunity to visit Massasoit Community College for a MASSHIRE event, The Construction Trade day. This is a great chance to learn more about potential careers in the trades.
Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities as the school year progresses!
A Peek Inside Classes and Clubs

8th Grade Civics
Students in 8th Grade Civics have been emailing, interviewing, surveying, and even calling changemakers in society for their State Mandated Civics Projects! Students have been learning email etiquette, using research to compose arguments to make changes in their community. They have been reviewing MLA format and learning transferable skills that can be used in all aspects of life for high school and beyond! They will be completing their projects this month! We can’t wait to see the positive change they have made in the community!
Reading
Grade 7 Reading- Students are learning about the Holocaust and how it impacted Anne Frank and her family.
We will listen to a play version of the story that takes us from the beginning of hiding in the annex to the end of Anne’s life in the concentration camp. We will learn about all 8 inhabitants of the annex through Anne’s voice.
Physical Education
Students enjoyed learning to play disc golf. Mrs. Widdop designed a playing course out on the field and students had scoring cards to record their scores!
TV Production
Seniors in Mrs. Mischley’s Honors English classes wrote a variety of poetry this year. They crafted sonnets and flower symbolism pieces as well as mirrored in style poets such as William Shakespeare, Edmund Spenser, Christopher Marlowe and Ted Kooser. Their work is being showcased on the WB’s Tortured Poetry Department bulletin board. Special thanks to Taylor Swift for the inspiration of the name.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Mental Health Action Day is May 16th! This day is an opportunity to break the stigma and take the next step from awareness to action for yourself, a loved one, or your community. Consider adopting a positive “mental health habit” like eating a balanced diet, getting a good night’s rest, exercising, or offering support to a friend or family member who is struggling. You can also support others this month through having a gratitude practice, volunteering, random acts of kindness, or practicing mindfulness. Check out https://www.samhsa.gov/mental-health-awareness-month for more tips.

Spring Sports Highlights:
Unified Cornhole:
Yesterday marked the first practice for our new Unified Cornhole team at the Middle Senior High School. It was great to see so many student athletes come out for a new season willing to try a new sport! Great Job!
E-Sports:
The ESports team’s first season has come to an end. An intense and grueling second round of the playoffs brought the season to a close. While it was not a first-place finish, the team grew tremendously, as the team reached 6th place out of 54 in the state. Stay tuned for details about an in-school ESports tournament!
Boys Lacrosse:
The success of the WEB Boys Lacrosse team simply cannot be measured by Wins and Losses. Regardless of the outcome of any game, the boys show their character and grit by competing until the clock stops. Each member of the team has shown drastic improvements in their stick skills, overall lacrosse IQ, and trust in one another. Practices remain fun, engaging, and ultra competitive. Brayden Bates, Nate Frechette, and Andrew Perry remain key members of the defense. Tyler Webb, Brian Westerlund, Jack Pimental and Michael Stewart have made continuous improvement and are a positive impact on the offensive end. The team is looking to finish the season strong and continue to focus on the development of each player.
Girls Tennis:
The girls tennis team had a tough loss against the Fairhaven Blue Devils. Riley Bain, Reese Bunker, and Kaylee Pettinelli all put up a good fight at singles. Emma Dowdall and Adalyn Jenkinson fought hard at first doubles and played well at the net. Second doubles, Grace Polen and Elayna Jenkinson played together for the first time and won 6-1, 6-3! They will play Somerset Berkley in their next match. Great Job and Good Luck!
Boys Tennis:
The boys tennis team lost a hard fought match to a strong Fairhaven opponent yesterday 1 to 4. Noah Holland had a marathon singles match that went past 6pm. Noah’s serve was on and he did a fantastic job battling on the court. Anthony D’Agostino and Chris Jones played a nice match at doubles for the wildcats. Anthony was an animal at the net putting the ball away and Christopher was on fire with his serve. Sean Byrnes got his first singles match of the year under his belt too. Winning for the Wildcats was the doubles team of Nathan Trott and Ryan Geniuch. The freshman duo was dynamite on the court making quick work of Fairhaven. The boys look to bounce back with a win on Thursday as they travel to Somerset.
Track and Field:
WB hosted the 2nd annual Division 6 Track and Field relay meet! We had 19 teams at our track competing.
The girls team finished 3rd overall:
The Long Jump team of Aly Basset, Kate Austrino, and Mia Gunnison finished first
4x1600m team of Emma Pope, Vivianna Morales-Wakin, Maxine Medieros, and Ella Dunbury finished first
The DMR team of Emma, Kerri Gomes, Viv, and Ella finished second
The SMR team of Alyssa Caldeira, Kerri, Mia, and Ella finished second
Finally, the shuttle hurdle team of Kate, Alyssa Duarte, Chloe Gauthier, and Aly finished third
The Boys Track Team finished second overall.
The javelin squad of Derek Cashman, James Harris, and Sean Hancock finished 2nd, with Harris having the best overall throw of any athlete.
The 4x200 relay team of Tyler Holmes, Kenly Laime, Sam Salter, and James Harris also took 2nd place.
And the 4x100 squad of Hancock, Kenly, Salter, and Harris qualified for the state championship.
Great work WB!
Baseball:
The Varsity Baseball team lost to Apponequet 8-0 in their last game. Jag Garces pitched 4 and ⅔ innings giving up 1 earned run and striking out 4. Jag went 2 for 3 at the plate. Charlie Mallett and Jamie Sheedy both reached base for the Wildcats as well.
Jag Garces was named player of the week by the Brockton Enterprise. Congratulations Jag!
The JV Baseball team lost a tough game 14-1 to a tough Fairhaven team. They look to bounce back in their upcoming games next week.
Softball:
The JV softball team beat Cardinal Spellman yesterday 17-11. Laura Schaffert pitched all 7 innings with 4 strikeouts. Sydney Muller had a great game behind the plate for her first catching appearance of the season, she even caught a foul ball behind the plate. Lauren Wallis hit an in the park homerun and Emma Maher and Holly Horton had great bats as well.
The varsity softball team had a tough first inning allowing 4 runs and 9 batters, but that was it for Cardinal Spellman. The girls scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning and added an insurance run in the 9th inning. The girls won 6-4. It was a good defensive game for the girls with Haylee Krakowski making a great play in the bottom of the 7th. Alana Fidalgo had 3 hits and scored a run and batted in a run. Jill Foley had a great game scoring 2 runs while Ava Matta had 2 runs batted in.
