Well done 4th grade. Making RFS proud.
Dear Families,
Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Reeds Ferry School! This is a great opportunity to connect with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
Dates: Monday, November 4 – Tuesday, November 12
Location: Main Hallway
Family Event schedule and location: Open during parent/teacher conferences (volunteers still needed, sign up HERE)
There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage:
https://www.scholastic.com/bf/ReedsFerry
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds.
When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called
Share the Fair™. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books
from the Fair.
Many of us still remember the rush of finding the perfect book at a Scholastic Book Fair. I hope you’ll join your child at our school’s Fair and share a reading experience they’ll remember forever.
Happy reading,
Bonnie Painchaud, Principal
Reeds Ferry School
PS: Need one more reason to visit the Book Fair? Every purchase at the Fair benefits our school!

First Grade News!
In First Grade, we have been learning all about the season of fall! We’ve discussed how the leaves change color, the weather cools and all the different fall activities we can do with our friends and families.
On October 31st, all the first grade classes celebrated the fall season by wearing costumes to school and having class Harvest Parties. The day started with a Costume Parade through the school where students proudly showcased their fantastic costumes. From book characters to fuzzy animals, each child brought their own unique twist to the fall theme. Students read, Spookly the Square Pumpkin and learned how being different is a strength and used candy corn to practice our addition and subtraction strategies to 10. We ended the day with Harvest Parties where we had healthy snacks, a few sweet treats and played fall games!
A huge thank you to all the volunteers and parents who helped make our day extra special! Your support was invaluable, and we couldn’t have done it without you. We look forward to more fun-filled events this year!
FamilyTrips
We understand the importance of education and the role that school plays in your children's development. However, we also believe that family trips offer opportunities for connection, exploration, and making lasting memories together. These experiences can enrich your child's understanding of the world, providing lessons that go beyond the classroom. Balancing school commitments with quality time spent as a family is essential for fostering strong relationships and creating cherished moments.
Please note the excerpt from the district's Attendance Policy below when taking family trips:
Family Trips/Educational Opportunities
The school Principal or his/her designee may also grant an excused absence for family trips, under the following conditions:
- Parents are required to provide, in writing, a note to the Principal at least two weeks prior to the trip explaining the reason for the absence, including why and for how long the student will be absent due to the trip.
- The Principal must make a determination and will provide written notification of his/her decision to the parent in advance of the trip.

MSD policy for Volunteers
All volunteers, chaperones, and substitute teachers must complete a background check and be fingerprinted. If you intend to volunteer for any of these opportunities, please contact the district office for an appointment ASAP. If you have already had your fingerprints done through the school in previous years and have volunteered within the last year, you do not need to have them done again.
You will have to complete the two Vector training courses yearly: Bullying and Cyberbullying Prevention for Schools (K-12) and Preventing Workplace Harassment for Employees. Follow this link for directions to the online trainings: Training Directions.
