I found this recipe and thought it was worth sharing…
A Recipe For A Thankful Heart:
One cup of true love, two cups of kindness, three cups of grace, a teaspoon of patience and forgiveness, and just a pinch of zest for living. That’s the kind of Thanksgiving meal we’re cooking in our lives together.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
1B earned their whole class reward of movie and a popcorn! Happy Thanksgiving!
Gobble Gobble!
FES paraprofessional Ms. Sarah Powell surprised students on Monday riding a giant inflatable turkey and rocking a karaoke machine! It was a great way to start the short week!
FES Shines in United Way Coin Campaign!
Each year, FES participates in the United Way's Coin Campaign which helps raise funds to support local area programs. These programs include Girls Scouts, Boys Scouts, Red Cross, April House, Odell Library, Salvation Army, Whiteside County Senior Center, and many more.
The 16 schools who participated raised a total of $11,281.78. Of those 16 schools, FES raised the most with $1,662.08! The United Way recognized the top homeroom from each grade level with certificates and treats. Here were the results:
KA Ms. Dornbush - $69.74
1C Mrs. Schipper - $127.23
2A Ms. Maloney - $114.34
3C Mrs. Spencer - $155.52
4C Mrs. Miner - $179.24
5C Mr. Hafner - $64.12
However, because third grade did such an amazing job, the United Way recognized two homerooms for their outstanding performance. So, 3A Ms. Guerrero's homeroom was also recognized and they were the top performing class with $213.44 in donations!
House Day Focuses on Teamwork!
On Tuesday, November 25, FES held a House Day in which students complete activities as their respective houses. The House System separates K-5 students into four houses (similar to Harry Potter): Anchor House, Bridge House, River House, and Wheel House.
With our monthly focus on TEAMWORK, we held an all-school assembly that included Coach Coffey with the boys basketball team and Coach Menchaca with the girls basketball team. The coaches and players discussed teamwork with the students and the players gave demonstrations of the importance of teamwork in basketball.
Following the assembly, students separated into their respective Houses to write thank you cards to the teams.
Leadworthy Lil Steamers for November!
Each month, the Greatest Little Elementary School in the Universe focuses on a character trait as part of our Capturing Kids Hearts initiative. During November our focus was TEAMWORK. Each homeroom then recognizes one student for going above and beyond and they receive their recognition certificate during a whole school assembly!

Guidelines for Keeping Home a Sick Child
1. A child should be fever-free without the assistance of medication for 24 hours before returning to school. A child's temperature is lowest in the morning, so a low temperature on awakening is not a true indicator. If you have given your child Tylenol or Motrin at night, the medication could still be affecting your child's temperature.
2. A child should be free of vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. A child who has been ill during the night may feel slightly better in the morning and even ask to go to school. however, the child will likely experience symptoms of illness later and will be contagious to the other children and staff.
3. A child with a thick or constant colored nasal discharge should remain home. Very few younger children can effectively blow their noses and wash their hands afterwards.
4. A child diagnosed with strep throat/scarlet fever should remain home for the first 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. A child remains contagious until they has been antibiotics for 24 hours.
5. A child diagnosed with conjunctivitis may attend school after 24 hours of antibiotic treatment. There should also not be any drainage from the eyes.
6. If you child has a persistent cough.
7. If your child sustains an injury either in or out of school, please notify the school nurse's office and send a doctor's note if your child is unable to participate in physical education or recess.
The 24-Hour Rule:
A child should stay home for at least 24 hours to rest if the following symptoms are present the morning of school or the previous night:
- Vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Fever above 100 degrees
- Itchy or reddened eyes with drainage
- An unusual rash, respecially if accompanied by drainage
- A poor night's sleep due to illness, cough, etc.
