Exciting News at Evans Park - May / June
Together We Can Set Sail for Summer
Dear Evans Park Elementary Community,
It is always surprising how the end of the school year seems to sneak up on us! As we look forward to an exciting end of year and fun-filled summer, I would also like to reflect on the 2023-24 school year at Evans Park.
Personally, I would like to thank Evans Park Elementary School and Pearl River School District for warmly welcoming me. It has been wonderful to watch our students grow and to learn about our community. Throughout this school year, I have experienced the core belief that our strength lies in our sense of kinship and that together was can achieve great things for our children.
As we look towards the summer, I wish our families, staff, and especially our students, a time to relax, reflect, play, read and enjoy time together outdoors. We look forward to welcoming you back in September for another exciting year. And to our fourth graders and families moving on to the middle school, we wish you the best of luck and know you will continue to shine as Pirates!
Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership,
Joe Avdek
Principal
2024 Evans Park Field Day
Our Evans Park Field Day was a wonderful event where children competed, practiced their physical education skills, celebrated with one another, and most importantly, enjoyed a beautiful day as a school community. A special thank you to Coach Plattner for organizing this event and to our PTA for all of their support and efforts towards making it a success.
Please see photos of our families, staff and students having fun!
Together, Tigers Can Support School Belonging
Evans Events - Mar. / Apr.
Celebrating Tigers - End of Year Dance Off!
This year, we kicked off our PBIS reward system by celebrating Tigers that were respectful, responsible, ready and safe! Over the course of the year, students have collected over 9,000 tickets acknowledging their acts of leadership and kindness. Our Tigers are truly amazing!
In celebration, our PTA will be hosting a DJ to join Tigers for an additional recess period on June 17th! This will be a great time to celebrate our Evans Park community together. Thank you to our PTA and our fabulous students.
Together, Tigers Can Show Character!
Throughout the academic year, we have highlighted all of our students for their generosity, talent, empathy, perseverance, positive thinking, confidence and honesty. Beyond academics, we are committed to fostering kind and empathetic leaders.
Tigers Jump Rope for Heart!
Our Physical Education classes partnered with The Kids Heart Challenge for their Jump Rope unit. Over three weeks, students learned about the cardio benefits and skills needed in order to be able to maneuver the rope and jump correctly.
At an all school assembly, students performed for one another and celebrated their leadership in raising money for this great cause! The money raised will benefit the American Heart Association and will help us purchase physical education equipment for our school.

Tigers on the Move!
The month of May provided many opportunities for our Tigers to travel into the community and gain some hands-on learning experiences! Students in grades K-4 attended a play of Charlotte's Web, explored historical villages, worked on gross motor skills while bowling, and got wild about animals and nature during zoo visits.
These opportunities showcased the power of our knowledge and how it extends beyond the classroom and prepares students for the real world!
Welcoming Spring with Song
On May 17th, students at Evans Park joined in song to usher in the warmer weather and beautiful flowers at our Spring Concert! This was an amazing event where each grade level sang songs celebrating the season.
Prior to singing for our families, students rehearsed for one another. This was a great time to come together as a school community through music.
Thank you to music teacher Mrs. Loveland-Gill, teachers, custodial staff, and all of our families for your support.
Tigers Take Off on an International Adventure!
On June 7th, Evans Park students went on an amazing adventure during our World Cultures Day! Students toured the world - visiting various classrooms decorated to represent a country. Family volunteers joined our community for the day to discuss worldly traditions, foods, holidays, dances, languages and more.
In the afternoon, students were treated to an assembly, Beyond Mariachi, where they learned all about the history and geography of Mexico through song and dance. Thank you to our amazing PTA for organizing this event for our students. Please check out photos of this amazing day!

Change to Dismissal Form for 2024-2025
In order to support the collection of daily dismissal notes, we will be streamlining our process with the use of a Google Form for the 2024-2025 school year. This form will be used in place of paper notes, emails and phone calls. All families will be encouraged to communicate any daily change to dismissal by using the shared form. It will also be placed on the homepage of the Evans Park website for easy access.
This change will support the safe and efficient dismissal of students to their caregivers and increase the effectiveness of our communication. We appreciate families' partnership in supporting student safety and coordinating dismissal procedures.
Campus Safety at Evans Park
The safety of our children, families and staff are of the utmost priority. A notice was shared with our community last month discussing a matter of our dismissal and arrival times. Working together for the betterment of our children and school community, we can make the necessary changes for the safety of all.
At the entrance of our campus on Marion and Patton Place during arrival and dismissal, cars have parked on both sides of the street facing the wrong direction, or are parked in the "No Parking" zones. These cars are obstructing the view of our buses and walking families. This has led to congestion, later dismissal times, and an unsafe environment for our students and families both on, and off, of our campus.
I ask for your partnership and support in maintaining the safety of our students, families, staff, and buses during arrival and dismissal. We ask that you follow all traffic laws and safety practices both while driving and parking on and off of our campus during arrival and dismissal times.
Evans Park PTA
All parents and teachers are urged to join the Evans Park PTA to unite home, school and the community for our children. Money raised through dues and fundraising is used for cultural arts assemblies, after-school programs, field trips, instructional equipment and materials, and similar needs. Please follow this link for more information.
We are grateful for the amazing support of our PTA and their partnership in creating incredible opportunities for all of our students!
Dismissal Reminder
Please be sure to email your child's classroom teacher and our Main Office (at ZeppetellaM@PearlRiver.org and FreemanK@PearlRiver.org) before 11:30 AM of any changes to dismissal for the day. In order to coordinate a safe and efficient dismissal, we kindly ask for your support.
