Weekly Announcements
10.18.24
Colder temperatures are here! Please continue to send your child with outdoor attire each day. We go outside for a fifteen minute recess every day. Many classes choose to go outside for the additional fifteen minutes of movement/recess. It is always helpful to label all personal items sent to school. When we get into snowy weather, many students carry a separate bag for extra gear (like snow pants) since these things are not left at school. Students will continue to need gym shoes on P.E. days.
With colder temperatures comes a longer morning drop off line. A few reminders for morning drop off:
-Be kind - this is a great way to start our day on a positive note!
-There is no left turn into the circle driveway from Inverness Drive. Everyone waits in the same line.
-Pull up --- all the way up --- to behind the car in front of you
-Adults stay in the car
-Students should be ready to exit on the passenger side
-Students enter the school at the door closest to point of drop off
-Do not pass on the left after your child exits the car. Instead please stay put and wait for the line to move.
-If you have an appointment or need help with your child exiting the car, please pull into one of the front circle driveway parking spots.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Pohlmann

SCHOOL NEWS
October 22 Morning Arrival
Our school is having a new outdoor marquee sign installed on October 22. This project should start and possibly end before morning arrival. We will work with the installers to maintain our normal traffic flow for morning arrival.
Playground Equipment Survey
Steck is scheduled to have new playground equipment installed in the summer of 2025. Your input will help us with our planning. You can share your input about playground equipment through the survey link below. The survey closes on October 25. Thank you!
Fox Valley Park District Recess
We are excited to partner with Fox Valley Park District on October 25. Park District staff will visit our school to teach and play active games that can be used during recess. They will focus on everyday playground equipment or things to help get kids moving. The games kids play at school during recess offer many benefits, whether creative games that use their imagination or active games that work out their bodies, they all help children develop social skills, such as communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution. Just as importantly, physical activity is essential for children's overall health and well-being, and recess is an excellent way for students to get the exercise they need. This special visit by the Park District will add to the ideas for kids to know what they can do at recess.
Fall Dress Up Day 10/31
We are celebrating the fall season on Thursday, October 31. Students are invited to participate in our "Fall Dress Up Day". This day is designed to include all students and will include some fun, fall-themed activities in classrooms. Students can wear something fancy, a Halloween costume, Steck wear/school colors (navy/white), or something else. Students should be able to participate in the normal school day schedule with whatever they wear; attire should be something that can be worn to school and worn throughout the day. Students will not have time to change into another outfit or costume while at school. Costume masks, makeup, and accessories should be left at home. As always, clothing should be appropriate for school and not be a disruption to learning. Clothing and costumes that are not appropriate for elementary school will not be allowed during the school day.
Fall Parade
We are going to continue our tradition with a Fall Parade on October 31 at 2:00 p.m. (weather permitting). Families are welcome to visit Steck to watch the outdoor parade. We recommend walking to Steck or parking in the street due to limited parking in our lot. We ask that visitors spread out while here viewing the parade. The parade route is here. We will start at door 1 and go toward McCoy, around the back of the building, and back in door 12. Please find a spot that is comfortable for you anywhere on the parade route. Our parade is closely supervised by staff. When the parade is over, students, staff, and PTA party volunteers return to classrooms for the Fall Party. All others visitors are asked to leave at that time.
PTA Fall Party Snack
During our Fall Party on October 31, PTA will provide a snack of Oreos. The ingredient list and nutrition label can be found here. If you do not want your child to have this snack, please let your child's teacher know by October 25. Thank you!
Eagle Cart
Check out this information about how you can help with our eagle cart. Students work hard to earn eagle bucks and look forward to buying something special at eagle cart time.
