Principal's Update
March 15, 2024
Happy Friday Wolves!
I hope you are enjoying your sunny, no-school day! The weather this weekend looks like it will be beautiful. Just a reminder that our teachers are working on trimester 2 report cards today, and they will be sent home digitally at the end of next week. You will receive an email from the district on Monday (March 18th) with more information about accessing your child's report card.
Also, a huge THANK YOU to everyone who worked so hard to host our Neon Dance last night! We had an amazing turn out and I saw so many smiles. We appreciate all the work that went into hosting that event, and we hope if you attended you had a great time!
Enjoy the sunshine weekend,
Miranda

Reminder - Electronic Report Cards
As a reminder, starting with Trimester 2 (the trimester ending today), our district will begin providing electronic report cards for all families. Please watch for an email on Monday from the district with more details on how you will access your child's report card in this new format.
If you would prefer to opt-out of electronic-only report cards, please update your settings in ParentVue or contact our office. For instructions on self opt-out, please visit our website at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/electronic-report-cards/
Special Edition Ridges Shirts Now Available
We still have a few limited edition Ridges School shirts available (student sizes medium and large). They will be available to purchase in the student store for $16 each, starting next week. Dates and times for the student store and listed in the "Upcoming Dates" section below. Buy yours now before they are all sold out!
Cereal Boxes Needed for STEM
In a few weeks, 5th graders will be engaging in a three-week wind energy unit where they will design, test, and improve their own wind turbine blades. This unit builds on what they explored last year.
To make the blades, we are in need of empty flattened cereal boxes (or other similar boxes of the same weighted cardboard). If you have any available, we will gladly take them off your hands as early as Monday and up to Spring Break. Students can just drop them off in either the Edy or Laurel Ridge STEM lab in or bring them when they have STEM class. Any unused box for this project will be put to use in future projects at the other grade levels.
Thanks for all your support through PAC and donated materials. It really makes a huge positive difference.

State Testing Notice
Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin in April for students in grades 3-8.
Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.
While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators, about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.
Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your school front office by Friday, April 12 to best support our school with planning for this year's testing schedule:
