Letter to the Community
Dear North Penn Community,
Welcome to spring! Our schools are busy in the rush towards the end of the school year, and this month saw lots going on at North Penn. At the beginning of the April action meeting, a video created by North Penn Television (NPTV) students, North Penn News Update, was played. We typically have these videos played before each action meeting to give both the community and the school board an update on what amazing things are going on in the school district that month. The videos are incredible, and are put together with the energy and professionalism that the NPTV program is known for.
NPTV continues to shine as a standout example of student-led media production and educational opportunity. Based at North Penn High School, NPTV gives students hands-on experience in broadcasting, video production, and digital storytelling. Established to enhance communication within the district and to offer students real-world skills in television production, NPTV has grown into a full-fledged media outlet. It broadcasts daily announcements, live sporting events, board meetings, and special features showcasing student achievements and community events. The program is not only a staple within the school, but also reaches the broader North Penn community via Comcast Channel 28, Verizon FIOS Channel 29, and YouTube, as well as the NPTV app on Apple TV, ROKU, and Fire TV. Students also have the opportunity to be radio DJs for WNPV, 98.5 FM, North Penn’s very own radio station.
Each year, NPTV participates in local and national competitions, often earning recognition for its high-quality work. The program also collaborates with other departments and clubs to support school events and initiatives, further embedding itself in the culture and spirit of North Penn.
Under the guidance of experienced educators, students take on professional roles such as producers, directors, reporters, and technical crew members. With state-of-the-art equipment and a passion for storytelling, NPTV continues to prepare students for college and beyond. Alumni of the program have gone on to pursue careers in journalism, film, marketing, and television production.
As the district embraces technology and innovation in education, NPTV stands as a proud example of what students can accomplish when given the tools and trust.
Thank you,
Cathy McMurtrie
President, NPSD Board of School Directors
