Feedback Framing
1. Feedback Description: an honest and respectful description of the candidate's performance.
"The lesson was not sequenced well, causing a large amount of student confusion."
2. Statement of high standards and reason for feedback: Acknowledges your high standards for candidate's work; you are giving this feedback to help your candidate grow their abilities.
"Pacing and sequencing are definitely things that you can improve with practice. They are essential to lesson delivery."
3. Assurance: Assurance for the candidate that you believe in their ability to achieve your high standards.
"I am impressed that you noticed this issue in your own reflection of the lesson. Recognizing the issue is the first step. I know you will improve this."
4. Specific suggestions: Specific, actionable feedback and direction and/or connection to resources for candidates to use for improvement and growth in the field placement.
"For your next lesson, jot down the expected time allotment for each task. Also, include the agenda on the board or in your slides to keep you on track. Set a timer for the discussion portions. Is there anything else you want to try?"
Final Assessment Meetings
1. How well did your candidate perform the midterm goals that were set?
2. How has your candidate grown and developed during this time with you?
3. Is your candidate ready for the next phase of field experience or career? How do you know?
4. If you have a yearlong candidate, are you ready to offer your candidate more opportunities to plan, implement, organize, and assess instruction? Are they ready to take on this additional responsibility? See a possible phase 3 timeline here.
