We wrap up the initial quarter of the year turning the calendar to November. While we certainly all look forward to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, there is plenty to look forward to throughout the month of November here at West High.
November sees many of our athletic teams competing in playoff games, performances and competitions or looking back fondly on a season well done. November also sees many of our performers putting their incredible skills on display on the stage.
It is a privilege getting to see such talent on display and seeing our students getting to participate in activities and events that they are so passionate about. I am so very thankful for all of our outstanding student athletes, performers participants, competitors, sponsors and coaches for all they put on the fields, the tracks, the courts, the pools, the stage, the music halls, and anywhere else our teams compete or students perform. It is such a pleasure to be associated with programming that is equally as impressive in regards to skills as it is being represented by students, coaches and sponsors of character.
I am very thankful for our teaching staff. Our teachers give so much to provide rich and engaging opportunities for our students to learn each and every day. When teachers, parents, and students are all working towards shared goals it creates such a wonderful culture within the school community. I feel so fortunate to be a member of such a collaborative place like the one here at West High.
There truly is so much to be thankful for being a part of the West High community. And one of the best things to be thankful for is the simple fact that there is so much more to come this school year. Let's make November one of the best.

Students in the Parkway West band program have once again been very busy through the month of October. The marching band finished their competitive season with two exciting performances at the Park Hills Central High School contest. WHS placed third among twenty four competing bands and then again placed third in finals competition. Members of the concert and symphonic bands are preparing for the fall concert, which will be on Thursday, November 14th at 7:00pm in the WHS theatre. On Friday, October 25th members of our jazz band were guests of Jazz St. Louis and attended a lunch concert and clinic and had the opportunity to interact with professional jazz saxophonist Immanuel Wilkins. Our jazz band will perform alongside the jazz choir on Monday, November 18th at 7:00pm in the WHS theatre. As always, learn more about the West bands at www.parkwaywestband.com
Officer Matt Paubel is West High's on-site School Resource Officer (he's been here since 2021) Matt is a Chesterfield police officer and works with West High administration for all security purposes and much more. In order to keep all families, students and staff safe while traveling to and from West High, he would like everyone to keep the following pointers in mind:
- We are seeing an increase in the amount of students that are parking in spaces that are not actually designated parking spaces. Please be sure that you are only parking in designated parking spaces.
- No West High student should be parking at the Early Childhood Center Parking lot. Our Junior pit is designed for student parkers.
- The speed limit on campus is 15 mph. Several students and parents have been traveling at much higher rates of speed and accidents can happen. Please prioritize safety and slow down.
- Only Junior and Senior students with valid parking tags are allowed to park on campus in designated student lots. Please make sure your tag is hanging from the rearview mirror and not on your dashboard or in your cupholder.
MSHSAA EXPECTATIONS
If you plan on participating in athletics, please keep in mind that MSHSAA requires that student athletes enroll in, and pass, at minimum 6 classes each semester in order to participate in athletics. Please contact Jeff Taggart, Athletic & Activities Director or your grade level principal if you need additional information.
