Windermere Family Update
Windermere Weekly Parent Update 8.7.24
One week from today is our first day of school. We are SO excited to welcome back all of our Hawks! I hope you and your family have had the best summer. The past two days, our kindergarten team welcomed our newest Hawks at kindergarten screening. We can’t wait for our year to start!!!
There is so much activity in the building, as we are making sure we are ready for Wednesday. Our amazing custodial staff have worked so hard to make sure the building is sparkling!

PTO Funded School Supplies:
Thanks to the incredible support of our Hawk families and the Windermere PTO, school supplies are fully covered this year! The PTO's dedication to fundraising, including Hawk Walk, Hawk Social, and Kid Fest, has made this possible. Families only need to purchase iPad stylus and headphones with USB-C hookup.
Back To School/Meet the Teacher:
Please join us on Tuesday, Aug. 13 from 4:00-5:30 for an open house for your child to meet their teacher and see their new classroom. Kona Ice will also be available for purchase after you meet your child’s teacher.
iPads/PLEASE NOTE
Great news! All students will be upgrading their iPads this year to the 10th generation! The lease for the old iPads is up and we will be sending these back this fall. Replacement iPads will be distributed the first few weeks of school. When your child's new iPad does come home, take time to explore the new device with your child. Please echo our message at school that this device is school property and only should be used for school activities assigned by their teachers. These school tools are a privilege to use and the Windermere Way (see detailed information in the Acceptable Use Policy that is in your back to school forms in PowerSchool) is expected at all times while using the new iPad. There will be a slight learning curve with this new device as it does not come with a home button. They will catch on in no time! We will be taking time at distribution to discuss the new features and expectations. Please also note that this device uses USB-C charging and will require headphones with USB-C to connect to the device. (Another option is bluetooth.) Another tool that students will need is a quality stylus. If your child currently has an Apple Pencil, it is compatible! However, they will need an adapter to charge it. There are many options and price ranges for a stylus and your child's current one may still be sufficient. If it requires Bluetooth, try connecting the stylus when the new iPad comes home to see if it is compatible.
No stickers may be placed on the device.
Please send in your child's old iPad the first day of school to initiate the exchange process. It would be very helpful if it was fully charged so that we can cross check ownership and erase the data. As long as your child is signed into Apple ID in settings, the photos/videos will transfer to the new device. Anything in the Photos app should be for school use only. Please have your child delete anything personal or that does not have to do with school. We do not need the cord and charging brick back. If you are unable to locate your child's iPad, please email district Familytech Help (familytechhelp@uaschools.org) to make a plan. This is the best and fastest way to receive support. In addition, if your child is new to the district or has transferred from another building, we ask for your patience in rerouting their device to our building. We will all be up and running in no time!
PowerSchool Outage - August 10th, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
META Columbus, our PowerSchool host, has planned maintenance that requires everything to be powered down on August 10th. During the 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. maintenance window, you will not be able to access any of our PowerSchool portals. Please plan accordingly.
Ohio’s State Tests Family Reports:
for Last Year’s Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders:
Ohio’s State Tests Family Reports from spring testing are scheduled to arrive in the district over the summer. Reminder: Families have already seen the assessment results in their PowerParent portal. Parents, you may pick these up in your child’s current classroom during Meet the Teacher. Otherwise, we will send them home with students.
