Weekly Waddle
October 24
Message From the Principal
Dear Pattengill Families,
Happy Friday! It’s been a fantastic week to be a Pattengill Penguin! We are still recovering from last week's Fun Run! This week, our students enjoyed the rewards of their Fun Run success with a Kona Ice truck visit and lunch on the front lawn thanks to our PTA and parent volunteers.
We enjoyed seeing so many of you at Parent Teacher Conferences. Thank you for taking the time to connect with us; these conversations truly make a meaningful difference for our students. We are excited to partner with you in supporting your child's growth and celebrating their successes!
We are also excited to see you tonight at our Trunk or Treat from 5-7 PM. It is sure to be a fun-filled evening, so bring the whole family for Halloween treats and Pattengill Community fun!
Thank you for your continued support, and have a safe and happy weekend!
Proud to be your principal,
Shamika
Halloween Parade and Classroom Parties!
Our Halloween Parade will be held at 2:30 PM on Thursday, October 31st. Families are welcome to join us outside as we show off our costumes! If weather does not permit, we will have an indoor costume parade for staff and students and will be sure to post pictures.
Costumes are optional, but if your child chooses to dress up, please ensure their costumes are school-appropriate: no violence, blood, weapons, or full-face masks allowed.
Classroom Halloween parties are planned by our teachers and classroom coordinators. As a reminder, all party volunteers must be pre-approved and cleared in advance of the party.
Picture Retake Day
Your students should have brought home pictures this week. Please return the pictures you have received to school if you would like your child to take retakes. Picture retakes are scheduled for November 11th. Group photos will also be taken at that time.
Meet the Pattengill Staff!

There is also a special prize drawing for any 5th - 8th grade orchestra students from Angell, Pattengill, Rogers, Burton, NIS and AMS who attend. Hope to see you there!
Berkley Schools Announces Varsity Tutors - Free for Students
Berkley Schools has partnered with Varsity Tutors for Schools, an online platform with access to free learning tools.
The Varsity Tutors Platform gives students more opportunities to learn at their own pace, to get support on subjects they might be struggling with, to explore subjects they are learning in class and to support their curiosities. The platform includes the following:
24/7 on-demand chat tutoring and on-demand essay review to help students with any questions about homework, classwork or test prep.
Live group classes, recorded classes and celebrity-led StarCourses allow students to learn more about the subjects they’re interested in and add a touch of fun.
Assessments and self study practice problems provide opportunities to drill skills towards mastery.
College prep & admissions resources ensure that students have the best resources available.
How to Access Varsity Tutors
Sign into the Varsity Tutors platform through the student Clever portal. To learn how to log into Clever with your child’s Berkley Schools Google account, follow these directions.

Join the Berkley Education Foundation (BEF) for its inaugural BEF Open,
an X-Golf Tournament, November 8, 7-10 pm.
Every dollar the BEF raises supports teacher innovation-grants, the free student enrichment program, student scholarships and the 8th grade college tour.
Guests will have the chance to support the BEF by playing a round of golf, being a spectator, playing golf-related games for prizes and sponsoring a game. Golfers, in teams of four, will have the chance to play 18 holes at X-Golf on a world-renowned course. Teams will play an alternate ball style game and enjoy hot dogs at the turn. The team with the lowest score will win the grand prize. Only 9 teams are left - reserve your team before they sell out. Teams can utilize mulligans and sabotages to help their scores.
Golfers can also enter the Longest Drive contest, Closest to the Pin contest and Putting Challenge. Winners take home big prizes.
Not a golfer? Come for a Friday night out!
Enjoy an evening out, courtesy of the BEF, as a spectator. For those who are not avid golfers, don't want to commit to playing 18, or have never swung a club, stop in and enjoy the party. Spectator tickets are $25/person and include appetizers, hot dogs and an opportunity to play in the individual golf competitions.
