PRAIRIE POST
October 20, 2017
Principal's Message
I want to begin by sharing that Prairie Elementary was in the Freeman two weeks ago for increasing our Literacy scores by 10.2% on last years Forward Exam. I want to extend a loud PUMA ROAR to each an every member of our school community because this would not be possible without your support. Thank you for continuing to C.L.I.M.B. the Mountain of Success, and we are looking forward to reaching even higher heights in the future.
Here is the link to the Principal's Report from the October 10th PTA Meeting. I am looking for any volunteers that would like to be part of our Wellness Committee and 50th Anniversary Planning Committee. If you are interested in joining either of these committees, please contact me.
The Math educators hosted our 3rd Annual Math Night, and we enjoyed having the families out for a night of math fun. We are looking to have even more families attend our literacy and math nights in the future. Please come and learn with us.
Thank you to the PTA for hosting the Halloween Dance last Saturday. We Boogied the night away.
I wanted to remind everyone that next week is a shortened week. The first round of Student-Led Conferences will take place on Tuesday, October 24th. Prairie is currently shifting to Digital Continuums to be more efficient in communicating the learning progression of our scholars with you. Educators will provide an overview of the Digital Continuums at the Student-Led Conferences.
Please stop by the Book Fair if you have a few additional minutes to support our PTA and reading Program H.E.R.O. (Having Everyone Read Often).
We will have early release on Wednesday, October 25th at 1:40 p.m. There will be no school on Thursday, October 26th, and Friday, October 27th. We look forward to seeing all of our eager scholars rested and rejuvenated after this intermission.
Have a PAWSOME WEEKEND, and I look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday Morning.

PTA Partnership with Giggly Hugs Child Care
We are excited to announce a partnership with Giggly Hugs, which is a State certified child care center located around the corner from school on Industrial Dr.. This partnership will allow parents of children between the ages of 2.5 and 5 to receive approximately 3 hours of childcare while they volunteer at Prairie during the day. The cost is $10, of which Prairie PTA will pay $5. This program began on Monday, October 16th. There will be two slots available for parents to use - 8:45A-12P and 12P-3P (yes the first one is 3 hours and 15 minutes but Giggly Hugs is willing to offer that for parents who want to be at school by 9A to volunteer).
If you are interested in taking advantage of this new exciting program, please email Giggly Hugs Child Care at gigglyhugs@aol.com and get information about the slots available and the registration requirements. You may also email ptaprairie@gmail.com with questions.
In order to volunteer in your child's classroom or attend a field trip, you must have an approved background check on file at school. The Waukesha School District requires these applications be completed online. You will receive an email when you are approved, and an ID card will be mailed to you. These background checks are good for three years. Here is the link to sign up: https://bib.com/secureVolunteer/SCHOOL-DISTRICT-OF-WAUKESHA/
If you have any questions about the partnership with Giggly Hugs, please contact Erica Kasseckert directly at ericak0409@gmail.com.
