Wakeland Band
February 28, 2021
Wakeland Band Family -
I hope you are all doing well! We are so thankful that we will get to return to campus tomorrow for classes. Since we have lost the past 2 weeks of face-to-face instruction, we have a lot of catch up to play this week as we head into spring break.
Here are a couple of items for this week:
- We will be evaluating our UIL Record date of March 31 and determining if we need to move it or not based on how each ensemble is doing this week.
- Marching uniforms will be returned this week: Unless you have scheduled a private photo session with Leonard Photography

MARCHING BAND UNIFORM RETURN - DELAYED
We will be collecting marching band uniforms starting on March 1, 2021. Students will return their marching uniform in their entirety on their assigned day. Uniforms should be hung up properly on hanger and in the provided garment bag.
All uniform items must be returned and any missing or damage items will result in a fee being charged to your Wakeland student account.
Seniors/Juniors: Monday, March 1
Sophomore/Freshman: Tuesday, March 2
Virtual Academy students need to return uniforms by the end of the day on Wednesday March 3. Please plan to drop off in the morning before school or after school before 5:00p.

2021-2022 Dates:
For our returning students please begin looking at the 2021-2022 calendar for the fall semester. All marching events leading up to school starting are confirmed. We will release the football schedule as soon as we can for the 2021 season.
Physicals:
Please remember that for any students to participate in marching band, you must have a current physical on file. Each physical is good for 1 year from the date of the exam. Please take a look ahead to make sure you will have an updated physical on file as soon as the other expires for end of year camps and summer band/fall.
2021-2022 Audition Materials
Percussion Update
Wakeland Percussion,
I am excited to see all of you once again this week.
This will be a week of playing catch up and if possible, we will record a few of our smaller ensembles during 4B on Wednesday and Friday. Details about the recordings will be communicated out during class. Once the recordings are finished we will post them on YouTube for everyone to enjoy.
“Boom Bap” will meet after school on Monday and “Toccata” will meet after school on Thursday.
Drumline audition information has been posted to Canvas. Please reach out if you have any questions. Dates have not yet been finalized as we are waiting on guidance from District Admin on what we are allowed to do to include the incoming 9th graders in this experience. As soon as we hear from the district, we will send out another communication to finalize all dates.
March 20th the Wind Symphony and Percussion Ensemble will be performing for a Live Stream Concert set up by Music for All that is being promoted around the country. Due to the ice storm and school being closed the past two weeks, I will be reevaluating what ensembles will perform and if we should move our date to a later one. Our goal is always to provide as many opportunities to perform and showcase your hard work and talent, but also to make sure that we are prepared without rushing into an obligation just for the sake of checking a box.
I am hoping that by the end of this week we will have clear guidance and many of our future dates can be set in stone.
