Mrs. Haley and Mrs. King are excited to announce a Sora Reading Challenge for students!

• 3rd-5th Grades: Their challenge began over Thanksgiving break and will continue through winter break.
• Kindergarten-2nd Grades: Their challenge will take place during winter break.

Mrs. Haley and Mrs. King have selected some of their favorite books on Sora to share. By reading these books, students can earn prizes! They can choose to read the books themselves, listen to the audiobook versions, or have the books read aloud. Students should track their progress on the challenge sheets sent home in Thursday folders and return the completed sheets to Mrs. King after winter break.

What is Sora?
Sora is our district’s digital library app, accessible through ClassLink. Students can borrow and return digital books through this app. To access the special book collections for this challenge:

1. Open Sora via ClassLink.
2. Go to the Explore page (bottom of the screen).
3. Click the plus (+) button on the top right and enter the appropriate access code. (This only needs to be done once. The collection will then appear at the top of the Explore page.)

Calling all PK-8 students! Join the Silver Creek Dance Team for an exciting Mini Raptors Dance Camp where participants will learn a halftime dance and perform at a Silver Creek High School varsity girls' basketball game!

Camp Details:

• Date: Saturday, January 25th
• Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
• Location: Blue Mountain Elementary

Performance Details:

• Date: Thursday, January 30th
• Time: 5:30 PM
• Location: Silver Creek High School

Campers will receive a camp shirt and bow to wear on performance day!

• Deadline: January 6th
• Fee: $50 (reduced lunch: $30, free lunch: $15)

This winter, students in grades K-5 will once again have an opportunity to create something that makes the world a better place, to create an innovation that makes things easier for others, and to share their ideas with a large audience. The Innovation Fair will be held on March 4th and 5th during the Our Nights to Shine school-wide event.

This is not your typical science fair. Students can choose between completing an engineering design challenge, a traditional science fair project, or a Genius Hour project. Forms will be sent home with students after winter break, but the presentation I am sharing, with helpful links, can be found HERE if you want to get a head start! Students will have a chance to get supplies, if needed, from the STEM lab on Working Wednesdays (Jan. 22nd, 29th, Feb. 5th, and 26th). When they turn in their interest forms, they will need to select the dates they want to attend Working Wednesdays. Attendance is not a requirement.

The City of Longmont’s Children, Youth and Families (CYF) division is supporting two programs to help local students and future teachers with education costs:

• 529 Jump Program: Families of K-3 students can receive $50 scholarships when they open a 529 savings account to start saving for college.
• FRCC Grants: CYF is providing grants to Front Range Community College students studying early childhood education.
