Gospel Reflection
My Sheep Hear My Voice
What does Jesus give us through the resurrection? The simple yet profound answer is found in Sunday's gospel: ‘My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life.’ Through the power of the resurrection, Jesus shares with us what the Father shared with him; he gives us what the Father gives him, eternal life. This is a free gift; we can’t do anything to deserve it, warrant it or demand it. Yet, it does require some response on our part, and again we find this in our gospel.
How do we come know Jesus in a personal way with an intimate friendship? We experience Jesus through hearing his voice and then following him. Jesus never stops calling each of us personally; He reaches out to us when he says ‘I call you by your name, you are mine.’ And then having being called out love, we are invited and even challenged to follow him. Each of us follows Jesus in our own unique and sacred way according to our own baptismal call. During this Easter season, we pray that we will appreciate the gift of eternal life that is being made available to us, that we listen to the voice of Jesus calling and that we will follow him.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Tomorrow we welcome Congresswoman Jackie Speier to our Principal's Awards Ceremony. It is a great privilege that we will be honored with her presence to speak with the school community and to present awards to our students. The ceremony will begin at 9am in the Church. Please be mindful that the church doors will be closed on Walnut Street at 9am and only the entrance nearest the Annex on Miller will be open. This is our standard security practice now when we use the church for functions.
Student Safety
School safety is always a concern these days. We have instituted a new alert system for students when they are playing on the yard. This will go into effect on Monday. Each staff member will have a whistle, and in the event of an activity shooter situation the yard teacher/supervisor will blow the whistle and students will drop and cover. Then they will listen for instructions. Everyone will be briefed on what to do in the event of such a situation, and it will be a split second decision that an adult on duty will have to make. We also have added a trauma kit and a tourniquet to each of the emergency backpacks. We are placing an emergency backpack in the sacristy of the church in the event there is an incident in the church. Let's pray that we do not have any such incident.
School Re-Registration 2018 - 2019
I wish to remind those families who have not re-registered for the next school year that you need to do so. Please contact Mrs. Cierra if there are any issues with the re- registration or if you are not returning. If you do not complete the re-registration your child may lose his/her spot in the grade they will be entering.
Track
I received information from the PPSL director that at the track events at CSM, students have been allowed to run around without supervision and CSM equipment is being damaged. I would ask if you are at track meets, that you keep an eye on your child and not let them roam around the facility. Thanks for your cooperation with this matter.
6th Grade Outdoor Education
This coming week we'll see our 6th graders attend the CYO outdoor education program. It is always a great opportunity for students to get away from their normal environment, learn things about nature and the wilderness, and to live together in a different place. I wish to thank Mrs. Allen for organizing the field trip and to Miss Morrison who will be attending as a chaperone. Safe travels!!!
Bingo
I wish to encourage everyone to attend Friday Night Bingo when you have the chance. We are very reliant on our subsidy from the Bingo program.
First Holy Communion
On Saturday, April 28th, our second graders will be receiving the sacrament of Fist Holy Eucharist at 10am. We wish them all the best for this special day in their lives. Thanks to Miss Short for preparing the students for the sacraments this year. It is a big responsibility, and the students are certainly ready to receive the sacrament.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

Junior High Science with Skyline College
Our 6th and 7th grade classes have been working on various science experiments throughout the year with a group of students from Skyline College. The students from Skyline College are part of the Phi Theta Kappa-Honor Society. Some of the experiments we worked on together were on the water cycle, cell structure and function, faults, and volcanoes. Our students gained additional knowledge on preparing experiments using the scientific method.
In addition to the in-class help, 20 of our junior high students participated in the Expanding Your Horizons event. This was a one-day event for girls in 6th to 12th grade. The program gave the opportunity for students to find out more information on careers in science, technology, engineering, and math. Additionally, there were sessions offered for college and career advice. Each student chose three sessions to attend throughout the day and met different educators and students from different schools.
California State Science Fair
Best of luck to two of our 8th grade students: Natalie Dean and Kalin Baca. They will be traveling to Los Angeles to participate in the California State Science Fair. The fair will take place from April 23-24 at the California Science Center. There will be over 900 participants from 400 schools in California. Good luck Natalie and Kalin!
