In Kindergarten
In ELA we will be learning about weather and seasons. We will discuss how our lives change with the seasons. We will continue practicing our sight words and reading "just right " text. In phonics we will be using digraph sounds to build words.
In math we are learning about shapes by identifying , comparing and composing 2-demensional figures.
Our science unit if Force and Motion. We will be observing ways to make sound and the different ways things can move. We will also be taking a field trip to the Environmental Studies Center to learn about turtles.
In 1st
First grade is busy, busy, busy working hard through the last few weeks of first grade! We are reading books independently and working on strategies to use when we come to tricky words. ALL the students will have to read and answer questions on their own for the last two Reading Benchmark tests.
In math, we have learned about measurement, and we are moving into learning about time and money.
In science, we are thinking like scientists and have learned all about matter.

In 2nd
ELA – Nonfiction test features, and Theme, Main or Central Idea
Phonics – Vowel Teams and their sounds
Science – Changing Matter
Math – Measurement in various units including feet and meters, estimation
In 3rd
We're completing Unit 8: Weather and Climate during reading. We're researching different types of weather to write a report about.
During math, we are focusing on time and measurement.
Science is all about the universe. We're going to be doing a final push of test prep to make sure everyone is ready to ROCK that FAST Assessment in early May
In 4th
ELA Unit 7: Unit 8 focuses on Nonfiction text and how the earth's natural processes impact our lives. Students will be working with text features and structure to demonstrate understanding of the text. Fourth grade will also prepare for all state assessments.
4th grade math:
We will work on Topics 13 and 14 in our SAVAAS math text while reviewing previous math standards in preparation for the PM 3 fast in May. Topic 13 focuses on developing an understanding of angle concepts including angle measurement. Topic 14 focuses on converting measurements within one system of measurement, customary or metric.
4th grade science:
We will explore human uses of energy including but not limited to observing and describing basic forms of energy. We will also investigate how water and air can be used to move things.
In 5th
Can you believe it?! We have made it to the closing of another school year! Students will complete their units in all subjects and begin the End-of-Year review. The writing FAST test is April 4th! Students have been working hard at perfecting their essay writing and typing skills.
We also have multiple field trips scheduled this month as well... April 1st is the Cox Science Center; on April 16th, we have the Island of Adventure trip; and safety patrol will attend a field trip to Sea World on April 24th.
Lastly, during the first 2 weeks of April, students are scheduled to attend the 5th grade Environmental Studies Center field trip with their class.
