Getting Started at NOVA
- APPLY: If you are interested in enrolling at NOVA, please complete the application online at www.nvcc.edu/apply
- FINANCIAL AID: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA) if you are eligible for federal student assistance. NOVA’s school code (003727) when completing the FAFSA. Visit NOVA’s Financial Aid web site for additional information:https://www.nvcc.edu/financialaid/
PLACEMENT TESTING: In order to place into the best-fit-class, especially during first term at NOVA, we have to determine math and English proficiency. NOVA offers a Math and English placement assessment, which is FREE of cost, to determine new student placement. Due to our efforts to maintain social distancing, NOVA is currently NOT able to offer placement testing. However, for students who have already been placed, whether through testing or Multiple Measures, their placement will stand and not be affected by any future policy changes.
Below is information on various methods for proper English and Math placement review in place of testing. These measures include: copy of high school unofficial transcript, OR unofficial SAT, ACT, GED, or internet-based TOEFL scores – depending on if you have the appropriate score/cumulative GPA. If you would like to determine if this is possible for you, please email the following documents:
- Email a scanned copy of your unofficial score report/transcript to jhanly@nvcc.edu at the Manassas Campus, or ktodd@nvcc.edu at the Woodbridge Campus.
- Include your NOVA EMPLID number.
- Include the academic area you will be pursing at NOVA (ex.: business, education, nursing, etc.).
- If you are not able to access your unofficial score/transcript – please share this information in order to receive next step instruction.
Exploring Academic Majors & Career Options:
If you are unsure of your major – please complete Career Self-Assessments on the VA Wizard Website to get a better idea what careers/majors are the best fit for you. Take a look at the majors that we offer, and find the programs that is the best fit for you, https://www.vawizard.org/wizard/home. Also, log into Naviance Student to review/complete the “Do What You Are” personality assessment career results. Contact an Advisor:
Planning and advising are critical to your success. After you complete the application, contact an advisory to assist you with setting goals, academic planning and selecting courses. Virtual advising is available online.
Please email jhanly@nvcc.edu at the Manassas Campus or ktodd@nvcc.edu at the Woodbridge Campus if you have further questions about placement testing OR multiple measures.
Students can reach out to Jocelyn Hanly, Manassas Campus High School Outreach Specialist, or Karen Todd, Woodbridge Campus High School Outreach Specialist, via email to address inquires as well. Please do not hesitate to reach out with additional questions or concerns.
