Meet our new Sequoia Adult School Director, Jonathan Fu!
We are pleased to announce that Jonathan Fu has been selected as Director of Sequoia Adult School and officially started as Director from January 4. Jon is well known to the school community as he initially joined SAS as the ESL Coordinator and teacher in 2015, and most recently as Assistant Director. Jon has worked in education since 2008 as an ESL teacher, program manager, and curriculum developer in different adult schools, colleges, language schools, and community organizations. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from University of California Santa Cruz, a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Columbia University, and a Master’s degree in School Administration from Notre Dame de Namur University. Prior to working in education, he was a video game producer.
Jon and his wife welcomed their first child almost a year ago. During his free time, he enjoys playing drums and piano, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. Please join SAS in congratulating Mr. Fu upon his selection as the next Director at Sequoia Adult School.

Why Water?
Did you know 80% of the jobs in the global workforce are dependent upon having access to an adequate supply of water and water-related services, including sanitation? So many of us could not do our jobs without water. If you are looking to start a new career and be classified as an essential worker where the median annual salary is $60,000-$70,000 a year, then the water distribution program is for you.
Pre-requisites
Must be a resident of California
A Highschool Diploma or GED
Prior to enrolling, students should have a strong understanding of secondary level math and science concepts and at least a ninth grade reading level.
JobTrain Free Bilingual Online Digital Literacy and ESL Classes
In this class you will become familiar with commonly used software programs, online tools, and social media platforms. Classes consist of discussion, hands on learning, scenarios and exercises. Offered in English and Spanish.
ESL (English as Second Language) classes are given in beginner and intermediate levels. The classes are open enrollment and there are are no placement tests.

Financial Literacy Classes in English and Spanish by the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center & PAL
The Police Activities League and the Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center are teaming up to lead online classes on creating pathways to financial security.
They will cover topics such as budgeting, building credit, choosing between credit cards, and more.

Drive-Up Dental Screening event in San Bruno on February 27th
Sonrisas is holding a Drive-Up Dental Screening event in San Bruno on February 27th (Saturday) at the Belle Air Elementary School ( parking lot) in San Bruno . Attached is a flyer that you are welcome to share with anyone who may be interested. All children in San Mateo County are welcome.
Safety precautions will be taken through temperature checks and COVID-19 symptom screenings. Parents/guardians will stay in the car, while children step out and sit in a sanitized chair to get their teeth checked.
Street Life Ministries offers free warm meals to the community.
Anyone is invited to pick up a meal at the following locations:

COVID-19 Testing
Safe, easy and no-cost testing is widely available at County-sponsored locations for everyone who works or lives in San Mateo County regardless of symptoms.
Here's how to get a COVID-19 test:
- San Mateo County residents should first contact their health care provider for a COVID-19 test.
- If you cannot get a timely test through your health care provider, please select from the following Testing Options listed below for a no-cost test at a County-sponsored location. Insurance will be billed if available.
- Once you select the best option for you, make an appointment. Appointments at ALL TEST SITES are STRONGLY encouraged as there is no guarantee you will be seen without one.
- Remember to bring your photo ID and the reference ID from the confirmation email to your appointment. Please have your insurance information ready if available.

While COVID-19 vaccine supply remains limited, you can sign up for the County’s notification tool to receive notification when the State makes you eligible and information about how you may get an appointment.
This notification system is meant as an interim strategy as the State of California assembles a statewide COVID-19 vaccine notification system called MyTurn, which will offer online appointment scheduling for our area soon.
