Hispanic Heritage Month
National Hispanic Heritage Month is annually celebrated from September 15 to October 15 in the United States for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States. Here are a few Hispanic Americans and their contributions to areas like science, government, art, literature and sports.
Mario Molina
Molina was a Mexican chemist. His inquisitiveness led him to the discovery of the threat to the Earth's ozone layer He was the first Mexican born scientist to receive a Nobel Prize in Chemistry. On 8 August 2013, US president Barack Obama announced Molina as a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Antonia Novello
Novello is a Puerto Rican American. President George H.W. Bush took notice of Novello’s work on pediatric AIDS and, in 1990, appointed her the United States’ 14th Surgeon General, the nation’s top health official. She was the first woman and the first Hispanic person to serve as U.S. Surgeon General.. While serving Novello focused on the health of women, children, and minorities.
Jovita Idár
She was an outspoken Mexican American journalist. Idár and her brothers fought for women's rights and wrote about their challenges in newspapers. She founded and led The League of Mexican Women. She was known for saying, “when you educate a woman, you educate a family.”
Richard E. Cavazos
He was a Mexican American that made military history. His courage led him to become the first Hispanic to receive the rank of brigadier general and later became the first Hispanic four-star general. On May 9, 2023, Fort Hood was renamed Fort Cavazos. Lt. Gen. Sean Bernabe, III Armored Corps Commanding General spoke on the renaming: “We are proud to be renaming Fort Hood as Fort Cavazos in recognition of an outstanding American hero, a veteran of the Korea and Vietnam wars and the first Hispanic to reach the rank of four-star general in our Army.
School Hours
School Hours:
Doors open at 7:30am.
Classes start at 7:45 am and dismisses at 3:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Students are dismissed at 2:00pm every Wednesday for early release.
Students must be in their classroom by 7:45am to avoid being tardy. If you are late, you need to sign in at the office and get a pass before going to class.

Attention Seniors!
The prestigious honor of “Student of the Month” is selected from the senior class for each month September through May. Seniors are selected for their academic successes, leadership abilities, citizenship, and extra-curricular activities.
Please see application for more information. The deadline to apply is Oct. 11th for the Sept., Oct., and Nov. Student of the Month.
Veterans Day Poems
Calling all poets! Help celebrate our veterans by creating an original poem for Veterans Day.
The top poem or poems will be shared at our Veterans Day Assembly, Monday, November 11, 2024.

S.A.D.D. Olympics are Coming! Sept 25-October 23!
What is the S.A.D.D. (Students Against Destructive Decisions) group up to?
In the spirit of the Olympic games, SADD members are competing in the "S.A.D.D. Olympics" by going out and having some fun! Students are flying kites, coloring with a young person, conducting a Random act of Kindness, or possibly even tossing a frisbee with friends.
Students have one month to complete as many fun activities as possible to earn a bronze, sliver, or gold medal. See Mrs. Miller if you are a SADD member who is
interested in joining in on the competition.

American Legion Speaking Contest
All students interested in the American Legion Speaking Contest, please sign up for an informational meeting Thursday, October 3 during Fox Time with Mrs. Miller.
Learn how you can gain speaking experience and a little money from our local American Legion.
Need to Leave for An Appointment? Here Are A Few Reminders!
Do you need to leave for an appointment? Remember, if you are in a sport or afterschool activity, you MUST BE IN SCHOOL FOR THE ENTIRE DAY. If you have an appointment, we must be notified AT LEAST 24 hours in advance in order for you to be eligible to participate. PLEASE have your parent or guardian let know what time you need to be excused from school in order for you to make it to your appointment on time, not necessarily the time of your appointment. Help us help YOU!

Dance Passes
Students interested in bringing a guest to the Homecoming dance who is not a current Omro High School student must complete a dance guest permission form. Forms are found in the HS office. Please read the form carefully to make sure you have all the necessary signatures and information complete. Forms are due back to the HS office by Tuesday, October 15th.
Reminders About Gym During Lunch
- You may NOT go out into the hall way. You are either in the PAC or the cafeteria.
- Inappropriate language and behaviors are not allowed and will result in you being removed for the next day. This includes tackling, rough, aggressive play, throwing balls at others, kicking balls across the gym and using profanity.
- You may NOT bring open food into the gym.
- EVERYONE needs to help clean up when the bell rings. It is not ok to just kick the balls to the corner of the gym for someone else to clean up.
- Remember, it is a PRIVILEGE to have the gym open during that time and if you wish to see it continue to be open, you need to be following all behavior expectations.

REMINDER: EXTRACURRICULAR ATTENDANCE POLICY - PRACTICE & COMPETITION
***Students must be in attendance for the entire school day in order to practice or compete in an event. ***
Special circumstances may merit exception with prior approval from the Principal/Dean of Students, or designee. To see if the absence can be approved:
- Step 1 - Parent/Guardian notification to office (Mrs. Prado, Mrs. Stadler or Mrs. Dobberstein) at least 24 hours prior to absence)
- Step 2 - If absence is approved, Student picks up signed Excused Slip from office
- Step 3 - Student gives signed Excused Slip to coach/advisor to participate the day of the absence
If an absence is deemed unexcused it will result in ineligibility for participation in extracurricular activities until the next full day of attendance.

WORK PERMITS ONLY AVAILABLE ONLINE
The application is now live. A parent can access the site using these instructions. Payment is made directly to the department through the application, using a credit or debit card or by ACH direct withdrawal. Once the permit application process is complete, the Department mails a paper copy of the permit directly to the employer.
In addition, we have reorganized our employment of minors web pages. The information you need is linked at the bottom of this page, including a guide to hazardous and prohibited work, the hours and times of day restrictions for minors, and links to the appropriate statutes and codes.

Thursday, October 17, from 1-3 pm at Theda Clark, you are invited to take part in a special opportunity to get a first hand look at the new Da Vinci 5 surgical robot. Our specially trained surgeons will be on hand to answer questions and share about the capabilities and benefits of robotic surgery. UW Oshkosh Campus Tour (Juniors & Seniors)
Attention Juniors and Seniors! Are you interested in touring UW Oshkosh? We will be taking a group of students to the UWO campus on Thursday, October 24th, but spaces are limited on a first come first serve basis. Cost to students is $10 to cover your lunch while on campus. If you are interested, stop in the guidance office to pick up a permission slip. Signed permission slips, with payment, are due back to the guidance office by Thursday, October 10th.

A free career exploration event, October 11, Northern Michigan University is hosting an event for high school girls at Boldt to learn about construction. Various skilled trades partners will be there to provide hands-on- activities along with other companies for architecture and design. Conservation Poster Contest
The Winnebago County Land & Water Conservation Department invites K5 through 12th grade students in Winnebago County to participate in the 2024-2025 Conservation Awareness Poster Contest. The annual competition encourages students to showcase their creativity and express their thoughts on conservation practices.
The theme for the 2024-2025 school year is "Home is where the Habitat is."
The contest is open to all Winnebago County public, private, and home-schooled students in K5-12th grade. Submissions will be evaluated in five different grade divisions: K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12. The top three posters in each category will receive prizes. Each of the the 1st place county winners will advance to the area competition, with a chance for their poster to win further prizes at the state and national level!
Posters and entry forms are due by 5:00pm on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 to the Winnebago County Land & Water Conservation Department.
Poster Contest Guidelines
- Poster size must be 12" x 18" OR 14" x 22"
- The 2025 National Contest Theme, "Home is where the Habitat is," must be written on each poster.
- All posters shall be created by an individual student, rather than a team of students.
- Any media may be used: paint, crayon, colored pencil, charcoal, stickers, paper or other materials on regular posters. Computer-generated posters will not be accepted.
- To be eligible for judging, each entry must have a completed and signed entry form attached to the back.
