Holly Middle School Families,

Just like that, January has come to a close. As we head into the race toward spring, we have so much to celebrate in our students' accomplishments so far, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth.

As mentioned in Mr. Roper’s letter, we want to extend our gratitude to Interim Assistant Principal Fletcher Spears for his support throughout January. We also look forward to welcoming him back to Holly Middle School in April and May.

In the meantime, we are thrilled to welcome David Raft as our Interim Assistant Principal for February and March!

Thank you all for a successful parent-teacher conference this week. Your continued collaboration and dedication make a tremendous impact in supporting student success.

A special shoutout to our amazing HAS School Board for their unwavering dedication and support—it’s the backbone of all that we do!

A Quick Safety Reminder:
If you’re picking up your child early, please remember to bring your ID to the door. For the safety of all our students, district policy requires ID verification before releasing your child. Unfortunately, we’re unable to release students to vehicles based on phone calls alone. Thank you for partnering with us to prioritize safety!

Please take a moment to review our cell phone policy with your child. We have seen an increase in students forgetting about the policy. Thank you so much for partnering with us on this.

Once on school grounds students will turn their electronic communication devices off and store them in the locker. Cell phones and communication devices shall NOT be visible throughout the day. This applies to student earbuds/headphones as well. Please follow this link to Page 27 in our student handbook for a complete overview of our policy.

Happy National School Counselor Week!
This week, we celebrate the incredible work of school counselors everywhere who help our students navigate challenges, explore opportunities, and grow into their best selves. A huge shoutout to Mrs. Godoshian and Mr. Mattingly, whose dedication makes a difference every single day. Thank you for all you do! #SchoolCounselorWeek #ThankYouCounselors

Mr. Mattingly’s patience, understanding, and friendly demeanor make him a rock for our students. Whether they’re working through challenges or just need someone to talk to, he’s always there with a listening ear and a warm smile. Mrs. Godoshian is the epitome of kindness and compassion. Her empathetic nature, caring heart, and ability to truly listen make her a trusted support for so many of our students. Thank you, Mrs. Godoshian, for always making our school a place where students feel safe and valued.

Our Academic tutoring program is being offered after school on Mondays and Thursdays. Each session will run from 2:50 - 4:00 pm and will be staffed by HMS teachers.

The expectations we have for our students in this program are as follows:

• Sign up for each session in the Student Office during the school day, we will cap the number of students at 40 and it is first come first served

• Be on time for each Tutoring session

• Be Prepared, Bring your current classwork/homework, study guides, or missing assignments with you to each session

• Be Engaged and Contribute to a positive work environment by:

  • Staying on task (no computer games or phones)

  • Avoiding distracting yourself or others

  • Listening to the directions and requests of the HMS Staff running the program

Congratulations!

Feb 7th will be our next Jamfest! The 8th-grade class council will be sponsoring the Jamfest. Tickets are only sold on the day of the event during lunch. The cost is $3 for the ticket. There will be pizza, pop and other snacks for additional cost. Students will need to be picked up at 4 pm.

Winter season is underway! Parents please make sure you have registered your student athlete on Final Forms and you have paid the Pay to Play fees. You can drop payment off in the front office or pay online through Efunds.

Medication

Please have all appropriate paperwork and Dr authorization forms signed and fully completed. Renewal of medical alert information is required to be updated every school year.

**Students that have chronic medical conditions that require a rescue medication such as seizures, severe allergies, or asthma can self-carry and are encouraged to. The school MUST have a current medical care plan on file with Dr authorization.

Handbook Highlights

BACKPACK/BOOKBAGS/COAT POLICY Backpacks, book bags, and bags may not be used in the school building during school hours. Medical exceptions, which require a doctor's note identifying a need for a student to use a backpack during the school day, must be turned in at the office. At this point, the student will either be given a clear backpack or a medical tag for their bag.

**Parents, as a reminder, we do not require a phone call prior to your arrival if you are picking up your student early. Please just come up to the building with your ID and we will call your student at that time. We can not call them prior to your arrival. If you have a prearranged appt, see Option 1 in the student sign-out procedures instructions.**

To minimize classroom disruptions, we are asking you to communicate with your student regarding their transportation home prior to the school day whenever possible. We understand that emergencies happen, if you do need to call we ask that you call the office no later than 2pm so that we have time to relay the message. We kindly ask that you make every effort to do that before 2, it would be greatly appreciated.

Holly Area Community Coalition and Holly Area Youth Assistance are community based organizations that can provide a multitude of resources for students and families. Please visit their websites for details.

S.T.A.N.D. Club
Students Taking A New Direction, is an afterschool club where students
look at areas of concerns that they face in middle school. They take those concerns, build campaigns and bring information to their fellow peers to help them make positive life choices and to stay away from destructive decisions. The group focuses on Skill Development, Community Service, Parent Involvement, Social Activities and Safety Awareness to address these concerns. Fun, food and friends is a big part of STAND also.

STAND meets every other Wednesday after school until 4pm. – February 5th and 19th, March 5th and 19th. STAND is open to all Middle School Students and they can join at any time during the year. STAND is facilitated by Ms. Lauinger, 6th grade math teacher and Mrs. Papple, Director Holly Area Community Coalition.
