Thank you to all parents who have turned in updated vaccination records for our SMN students!
We still have quite a few students who are missing at least one vaccine.
Please help us out in the nurse’s office and send any updated vaccine records to valsnow@smsd.org .
Our next exclusion date for SMSD is coming up quickly in January.
PLEASE, if you’ve been emailed or contact by phone about a missing vaccine, try to get that done as soon as possible.
If possible, get missing vaccinations over our extended winter break.
Our Johnson County Health Department is a good resource for updating vaccines, as is Walgreens, CVS, Mercy and Truth Clinics.
Vaccines can also be obtained at our Health Partnership Clinic at SMW on Thursdays during clinic hours from 11am to 3pm
If you need help contacting any of these businesses, please call us at 913-993-6907 or 913-993-6916.

SMN Athletics & Activities
Athletic Update
The winter sports season is in full swing. It’s a blessing to have students and fans attending the games and cheering on their teammates. I know our performing arts programs feel the same. I’m hopeful you can make it to one of our games/events. Our first home basketball games are this Friday.
- The varsity girls basketball team scored a victory over Junction City on Monday evening; congratulations to Coach Jacobsen on his first varsity win. On Tuesday evening, both the girls and boys varsity dropped games to SMNW. Boy’s basketball will have 3 games this week. Tuesday at Lansing., Friday our first Home Game vs. Lawrence and Saturday we play in the 810 showcase game against Piper at SMNW. The girls basketball team will play at Lansing and at home vs LHS Lions on Friday.
- Your Wrestling Bison started off the week with a quad at home defeating St. Pius. We lost to Sumner and Center. Over the weekend battling at the Cougar Invitational was Lucas McGriff, Samuel Mosciaro, Rhett Lane, Joey Piasecki, Jason Foust, and both placing 5th were Jack Taylor and Matthew Olendorf. The teams next competition will be next Friday and Saturday at the Johnson County Classic held at Blue Valley High School.
- Boys Swim and Dive, Cameron Lee and Junior Lopez lead the way for North. Cameron had a victory in the 50 Free and 2 State cuts. Junior also swam 2 State cuts, and finished 1st in the 500 Free and 2nd in his 200 IM. Sophomore Charlie Brooks won the 100 Backstroke with a State Consideration time and a personal record. Two of the three relays also swam State Qualifying cuts, with the 400 Free Relay getting a consideration time. Other swimmers who garnered Top 4 places in events included freshman Zak Kohoutek with a 2nd in the 200 Free and a 4th in the 100 Breaststroke. Jakob Rooney placed 3rd in the 50 Free. Henry Duff placed 4th in diving. Jack Nely placed 2nd in the 100 Backstroke, and Jonathan Guild placed 4th in the Back.
Please note masking is optional for home events and admittance is $7 adult and $5 K-12; we ask spectators to remain 3’ physical distance and fans and parents are not allowed on the floor..
Congratulations to Cameron Lee, son of Sarah and Matthew Lee. He will attend Truman State University, where he has earned a swimming scholarship. He will study pre-med. Cameron’s accolades include: Swim Team Captain for two years
and breaking multiple individual and relay school records for North Swim. He is currently the school record holder in the 100 Breaststroke with a 1:00.02, and is a part of all three of the current Relay records at North. At previous League Championships, Cameron has had four Top 10 Individual finishes. At State Championships as a junior, he had two 4th place finishes in individual races (100 Butterfly and 100 Breaststroke), and was recognized as a 1st Team All-State member. Also, he is a major influence on the team having the best 3-year period for the North Boys Swim and Dive team in the past 40 years. They have finished 10th, 8th and 8th at the State Championships the past three years. Last, but not least, Cameron is also extremely involved in many of the bands at North as a saxophone player and is a member of the Pep Club Officer team this year.
SMSD has endorsed a fundraising opportunity from a company, Giveback2Schools. I know that Olathe has endorsed this company also and their high school groups are currently using it with success. The essence of this opportunity is as follows –
You will use the Giveback2schools free app, which is designed to provide the easiest way to generate funds from everyday living. This costs nothing, is not another fundraiser, and doesn’t add anything to your plate, or that of parents and supporters. I’d suggest you watch the following 90-second video at the link that provides more explanation.https://flow.page/gb2s-schools
As you might expect, I receive oodles of emails daily offering fundraising opportunities. But this is different – it is very family, individual, and team friendly, and doesn’t require anyone to spend extra money.
