Communication Protocol
Week of October 28, 2024
Nighthawk Families,
Track 4 students took their report cards home on Friday, October 25th. Please be sure to review it with your student.
Students on Tracks 1 and 2 will receive Quarter 2 interims by the end of this week. Be sure to go through your student's PowerSchool account with them.
Our upcoming Veteran's Day event on Wednesday, November 6th is a community event you will consider or having a family member participate. Please see all the details below in the newsletter.
Class attendance and participation are critical elements of the educational process. Any absences, whether excused or unexcused, can have a negative impact on a student’s academic achievement. Regular attendance must be prioritized and encouraged throughout our school community.
We want to reward and acknowledge those students who attend school regularly.
Each month, students with Perfect Attendance (no excused or unexcused absences) will be recognized.
At the end of each quarter, students with 2 or fewer absences (excused or unexcused) will be recognized.
If there are extenuating circumstances for your student with regards to attendance, please contact your grade level counselor for support.
The 7th and 8th Grade Fall Dance is Friday, November 8th! Mark your calendars now!
- Please see below in the Athletics Section for this week's game schedule.
- Buy Spirit Wear (the PTA receives a portion of sales) - Herbert Akins Road spirit wear, Fuquay-Varina, NC, Nighthawks | 1st Place Spiritwear

Tracks 1 and 2: Social Intelligence; Track 4: Integrity
Dear Families,
This week, Tracks 1 and 2 will focus on the character strength of Humility.
Dear Families,
This week, Tracks 1 and 2 will focus on the character strength of Social Intelligence. Social intelligence means understanding other people's thoughts and feelings and why they act the way they do.
Social intelligence helps us build good relationships by being aware of others’ emotions and behaviors. It is different from "book smarts" and grows with experience. It also allows people to connect, form friendships, and protect themselves from being taken advantage of. It also helps us read facial expressions and understand what motivates others.
To practice and encourage the character strength of social intelligence at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below is the link to this week’s P2 for Families lesson.

This week, Track 4 will focus on the character strength of Integrity. Integrity means being honest, truthful, and genuine.
Integrity is doing the right thing even when no one is watching. People with integrity tell the truth and align their thoughts, feelings, and actions. They have the courage to stick to their beliefs, even if it means not following the crowd. Integrity is closely related to honesty and authenticity.
Integrity is essential for personal growth and well-being. When your thoughts, feelings, and actions are in harmony, you can grow and achieve your goals. Being authentic and genuine makes you more likable and trusted by others, improving your relationships.
To practice and encourage the character strength of integrity at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Veteran's Day Appreciation Event
Veteran's Day Appreciation Event
Herbert Akins Road Middle School is proud to announce our first annual Veteran's Day Appreciation Event. We would like to honor all immediate family member veterans of our wonderful students. The event will take place on November 6th, during the halftime break at our home football game. We would like to show our appreciation by personally thanking the parents, grandparents, and siblings of our students, who have served our country. Veterans will be individually escorted onto the field, displaying their name, rank, service branch, and years of service. Following the ceremony we would like to show our appreciation by providing catered food for our veterans. Veterans will have free admission to the game and are welcome to attend the whole game.
In addition, we will be selling American flags prior to the game. Each flag will be sold for $5 and proceeds will be donated to The Joel Fund, a local veterans organization. Students will be able to personalize the flag stick with a label, thanking a specific veteran, writing a personal message, or just generally thanking those who have served. Flags will be used to create a "field of flags" at school on Monday before the football game. Students will be able to retrieve their flags before the game on Wednesday afternoon and show their support for our veterans during the game and during the halftime break.
