Hinsdale Middle High School
January 31, 2025
Report Cards
Report cards for all students will be sent out electronically today to the email we have on file. Grades can also be viewed in PowerSchool either online or in the app. If you have not received an email with your child(ren)'s report card by Monday, please reach out to our guidance department to verify that we have a correct email address for you in our system. Members of the guidance department are Cathy Johnson, registrar (cjohnson@hnhsd.org), and Barb Geiss & Joe Smith, school counselors (bgeiss@hnhsd.org and jsmith@hnhsd.org).
Middle school students take their VEX classes (art, music, PE, computers, etc.) on a trimester schedule. This means that grades for these classes close at a different time of the year. Trimester grades can be viewed in PowerSchool.
Hope you have a great weekend!
Mrs. Roth
Future Med Students
Mrs. Savory's classes played the role of nephrology med students. They did their rounds of patients, looking at kidney diagnostic tests to bring possible diagnoses back to their attending. They also discussed risk factors for kidney disease, and looked at real scans of patients with kidney stones.
Youth Risk Behavior Survey
The Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) is a national survey, conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) every two years among representative samples of 9th through 12th grade students. YRBS monitors six types of health-related behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death and disability among youth and adults, including:
- Behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries and violence
- Sexual behaviors that contribute to unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV infection
- Alcohol and other drug use
- Tobacco use
- Unhealthy dietary behaviors
- Inadequate physical activity
Our high school students will be participating in the YRBS on Thursday, February 13. Please see a separate letter sent via email with more information. Questions can be directed to Anna Roth (aroth@hnhsd.org).
Putting Skills to the Test
Hinsdale engineering students tackled a practical midterm exam inspired by FLUOR's 2022 Engineering Challenge. They were tasked to build a ping pong ball "run" out of paper and tape, putting their study of kinematics, energy and the engineering design process to the test. All entries were required to meet minimum requirements, and the winning entry was the "run" that took the longest time from entry to exit. Landon, Caden and Aarav destroyed the competition with an almost 16s run. Congratulations!

Guidance Notes
School Counselors will begin meeting with students in grades 8-11 over the next couple of weeks to support them with course selection for next school year.
The Hinsdale School District will be hosting an AP breakfast on Wednesday 2/5. Students have been directly invited to attend the breakfast based on anticipated success in AP coursesl This potential for success is derived from students PSAT scores, which were taken earlier this year by all students in grades 9 -11.
College Guidance Network and NHED offer all NH high school counselors, students and families free access to CGN’s Roadmap to College and comprehensive library of on-demand college and career resources.
Another great free resource for students and families is Big Future, sponsored by the College Board. Big Future allows for career exploration, 1, 2 & 4-year college exploration, paying for college, check lists and a whole lot more. All students who have taken either a PSAT or SAT assessment are encouraged to check their email address for more information that has probably been shared with them. Otherwise anyone can begin searching at this address Big Future

A Pacer Making Us Proud Off Campus!
Seventh grade student Cayli Webb recently competed in the Pioneer Valley Swim League Championship meet at Springfield College. This was a two-day meet with 15 teams represented. Cayli won her 100 yard freestyle and 200 yard freestyle heats and beat her pr in both events. She also swam in two relays for her team. Congrats, Cayli, and thanks for representing Hinsdale outside of our district.
