Nurse's Corner
Families of Sutter Park Preschool:
Illness is on the rise in our community. Please be mindful when sending your child to school. Students must be fever free without medication for a minimum of 24 hours. Additionally, your child should stay home or until cleared by a physician for any of the following: pink eye, Strep throat, COVID 19, Influenza (flu), Pneumonia, Norovirus (Vomit/diarrhea), Impetigo, and Lice.
If you are not sure; please call the office and ask for Nurse Megan!
Transition to Kindergarten Information
If you were unable to attend our parent transition night on Thursday, you will receive a green folder with the handouts. Additionally, here is a summary of key points:
Eligible/Required:
-Your child is eligible to transition if they turn 5 by September 30, 2025.
-They are required to transition if they turn 6 by September 30, 2025
-If they will not be 5 or 6 by September 30, 2025-they remain in preschool
Free, Universal All Day Kindergarten:
-Worthington will be providing universal, free all day kindergarten for all students starting the fall of 2025. Sutter Park students do not need to do anything for this enrollment. If your eligible child remains in preschool, their kindergarten enrollment will be deleted
-We will ask eligible parents to give their intention by February 7, 2025.

Look-fors to support kindergarten readiness:
-Can your child start to complete tasks independently (open snacks, put on/off coat, etc)?
-When your child is upset, can they start to calm with your support?
-Can your child engage with others in social situations (sharing, taking turns, negotiating conflict) with your support?
-Can your child engage in activities at home for longer periods of time (10-15 minutes)?
Update on Elementary Technology Practices
While personal technology is not really present at the preschool level, I did want to share the following messaging so parents are aware of the district's technology practices, especially for older students.
As technology continues to become more present in our student’s lives, Worthington Schools has been seeking to better understand the impacts of technology in our classrooms. All schools in Ohio are required to adopt a policy regarding cell phone use by July 2025. Superintendent Dr. Bowers recently presented student, community, and staff feedback regarding cell phone use in our schools and Worthington’s progress toward defining a cell phone policy which you can view here.
Based on this feedback, we are adjusting our technology practices at the elementary level. Students at our elementary schools have always been asked to silence cell phones and are required to keep them in their bookbags during the school day. Now, this practice will also apply to smartwatches and other wearable technology.
This change supports a more focused and distraction-free classroom environment while still allowing students to access technology for communication to and from school. We understand that many families find value in features like location tracking, and this adjustment allows for these needs to be met without interrupting the school day. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create the best learning experience for all our students!
Should you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
