Parsons Pirate Update
February 10th, 2025
Principal's Message
Hello Parsons Family,
This week I listened to a podcast that said, "Too often we prepare the path for the child instead of the child for the path." As a mom of four in each level of school, this quote struck me. The data shows that adolescence is extending and often students are NOT ready to leave for the work force or university. How do we help prepare our kids for the future in a developmentally appropriate way? One of the recommendations was to make a list of five things you want your kids to be able to do under your roof. Maybe by the time they are 18 you want them to be able to drive a car, do their own laundry, cook a simple meal, travel somewhere unfamiliar, etc. What could you do today to help your child tomorrow?
This helps us in school too. Often students struggle in school because they are used to someone doing everything for them. In school, students have to wait their turn, engage in productive struggle, and be told no. We want to raise humans who can be respectful, responsible, safe, and kinder than necessary! Thanks for entrusting us to be part of the journey.
Sincerely,
Sarah Aherne

Attendance Updates
Attendance continues to be a big initiative at Parsons. Seventy students had perfect attendance for the entire second quarter and were mailed a congratulatory postcard. One hundred and seventy six students had Perfect Attendance for January. They received a perfect attendance certificate and a small prize.
We also continue to have 30 second dance parties for classes that are caught having perfect attendance on a random day. Students like to say "Our whole puzzle is here!" Keep it up Pirates! Nine days or less for school success!
Phones and Smartwatches
If you bring a cellular telephone, tablet, smartwatch, or other personal technology device to school, it must remain turned off and stored in a backpack. Items found as a distraction may be taken and stored in the school office to be given back at a later time.
If you would like to let your child continue to wear their smartwatch to school, they will have to keep them in their backpack, just like any student who brings a phone. Thank you for helping us with this.

As we start to have volunteers in the classroom, please remember that you must have a background check prior to your volunteer date. You can fill out the form and bring a copy of your license to Ms. Veronica. Once approved, you may volunteer. We do background checks twice a year. If you have a felony, you may not volunteer for WatchDogs, field trips, or volunteer in the classroom.
