Early Release for all students on Wednesday, March 6
Wednesday, March 6, is an Early Release Day for Grades DK-12. (There is NO Delayed Start for students in grades 9-12. High school students will start their day at 7:25 a.m.)
Students will be released two hours earlier than normal (see individual building dismissal times below). All students will continue to have a lunch period on these days.
The early release days provide the district with opportunities to conduct three-hour sessions of professional development with teaching staff. This will directly impact our students in ensuring that our teachers have been given the tools, training and best practices to deliver the curriculum so all of our students can achieve success.
The remaining Early Release date for the 2023-24 school year is May 1, 2024.
Art students tour Flint Institute of Arts
High school art students had the opportunity to visit the Flint Institute of Arts and Flint Farmers' Market this week.
"It was such a rewarding cultural experience for them," said Teacher Mrs. Bobbie McAlliister.
The tour started with the "Revolutionary Times" exhibit by Detroit artist Mario Moore, whose work focuses on reframing Black history through subjects from his life. Students were able to visit all of the museum’s permanent galleries in a speed tour, and then had the opportunity to go back to the areas they were most inspired by. Next up was the museum “hot shop,” where students learned how glass is made.
The trip included lunch and leisure time at the Flint Farmers’ Market where students were able to choose everything from arepas to sushi, Indian, middle eastern, southern BBQ and more.
Special thank you to Matthew Osmon, Director of Education at the FIA, for organizing such a rewarding experience for our students.

Powerlifting program continues to grow; 18 heading to state meets
The Davison Powerlifting program is growing by leaps and bounds.
"We had a ton of kids participate this year and we have 18 kids going to the State Meet," said Coach Zach Wagner.
The JV state meet is this Saturday, March 2, at Crosswell Lexington while the Varsity state meet will take place March 9 at Lake Orion. In order to qualify for states, a student athlete must be in the top 20 in the state for their weight class. That is not always an easy feat with some weight classes bringing in more than 130 kids, Wagner explained.

JV Women's State Qualifiers - Natalie Smith, 132; Emma Persails, 181
JV Men's State Qualifiers - Raymond Bednardski, 132; Jaxon Bennett, 155,165 (8th grader); Caden Huey, 165 (8th Grader), Ayden Seybert , 181; Cody Brownrigg 220; Logan Anderson 220; and Ben Nichols, (heavyweight).
Varsity Women's State Qualifiers - Mackenzee Alexander, 114; Maesen Hall, 181; Emersyn McCann, 242.
Varsity Men's State Qualifiers - Keith Wheeler, 114 (sophomore competing varsity); Ayden Lang, 132; Dominic Bingham, 165; Evan Shufelt, 207/220; Damarcus Davis, 242; Eiin McCain, 275.

The year was 1966: Yearbook ads take us back to yesteryear
These businesses placed advertisements in the 1966 Davison High School Yearbook. Oh, look at those cars and the fashions! How many of you remember these businesses? We are so thankful that the Davison community has always been so supportive of its school district - then and now!
