Testing Information
πβ¨ Attention Parents and Guardians!β¨π
As we gear up for an exciting new school year, we want to share some important information about our upcoming testing and assessments.
π Why Testing at the Start of the Year?
At the beginning of each academic year, we conduct pre-tests and assessments to gauge where each student stands in their learning journey. This helps us tailor our instruction to meet each child's unique needs and ensure that every student receives the support they need to succeed. Your child's performance on these assessments allows us to create a personalized learning plan that sets them up for success throughout the year.
β° The Importance of Attendance and Punctuality:
To make the most out of these assessments, it is crucial that students are present and on time every day, starting on Day 1. Consistent attendance ensures that every child has the opportunity to perform their best and benefit fully from our educational strategies.
π Special Accommodations:
Please note that students with an IEP or 504 Plan will have different testing dates to accommodate their individual needs. If you have any questions about your child's specific schedule or accommodations, please do not hesitate to reach out.
π Get Involved and Stay Informed:
To get more information about the testing and other important updates, we invite you to our **Intro to Parent University** on **August 1st at 3:00 pm** in the **Tri-Plex Gymnasium**. FOURTH NINE WEEK HONOR SCHOLARS
2023-24 JCES TEACHER OF THE YEAR, MS. ERICA SCOTT, 3RD GRADE ELA TEACHER
NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release: December 20, 2023
Scott named Jefferson County Elementary School's 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year
FAYETTE, Miss. β The Jefferson County School District is excited to announce that Ms. Erica Scott has been selected as the Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 academic year at Jefferson County Elementary School.
Ms. Scott has been teaching English Language Arts (ELA) to 3rd graders for four years. She has been instrumental in motivating her students to become critical thinkers by providing them with top-quality instruction and the freedom to be innovative.
Ms. Scott is a member of the Third Grade Literacy Trio, which includes Mrs. Covington and Ms. Mukes. The team's dedication and hard work have helped the district achieve a 100% promotion rate on the third-grade MAAP assessment. Ms. Scott's teaching philosophy is centered around the idea that she cannot teach her students everything, but she can teach them how to think.
Originally from Port Gibson, Mississippi, Ms. Scott is a proud graduate of Port Gibson High School's Class of 2002. She is a proud mother of a brilliant fourth-grader, Errian, and a godmother to Zaevion. Ms. Scott also has a grandchild named Karson. She earned her bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Alcorn State University and a master's in the Art of Teaching from Belhaven University. She is currently pursuing a specialist's degree in Psychometry at Jackson State University.
Ms. Scott's favorite quote is from Albert Einstein: βEducation is not the learning of facts, but the training of the mind to think.β Her family, who always pushed her beyond her limits, the Third Grade Trio members, her previous third-grade mentor, Ms. Shameka Woods, and Dr. LaRondrial Barnes, who gave her the courage and opportunity to educate our future, are all credited with her success.
βMs. Scott is an outstanding third-grade educator who remarkably connects with all her students,β said Principal Shameka Woods. βHer willingness to embrace new ideas and go above and beyond to ensure the success of her third-grade scholars stands out. As we observe her growth from an assistant teacher to the remarkable teacher of the year, we feel fortunate to have her as part of our team. We appreciate her exceptional work and encourage her to continue making a difference.β
The Teachers of the Year will be honored at our Teacher of the Year Ceremony, receive a monetary donation, and be recognized at our school board meeting. They will also have an opportunity to compete for the title of District Teacher of the Year.
